BTEC Extended Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment or Engineering grade MPP (Merit/Pass/Pass) 


Equivalent level 3 qualifications worth 64 UCAS points e.g. electrical or plumbing 
Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).

Working Hours: 40 hours per week

Brief Description: 

Assist and monitor Consultants Design, on site build, supervise trade partners, knowledge of operation and maintenance inclusive of, buildings and systems for Life Safety, Heating, Cooling, water supply, Power, Data, access control security.

Overview of the Role:
  • Develop an understanding of construction skills, terminology and methodology, is developing a practical understanding of the importance of health and safety and environment requirements involved.
  • Working both on-site and in the office
  • To ensure that safe systems of work are in place and all staff must adhere to them
  • Looking at environmental impact and risk
  • Take every possible opportunity to improve your knowledge and development – expand the breadth of your knowledge-base as well as the depth.
  • Work safely and competently in a site-based environment always adhering to Group
  • Gain a deep understating of quality and how important a part it takes in the installation of pressured and electrical systems.
  • Understand the importance of building services engineering systems within the process of the Berkeley build programme and sequence. 
  • Be part of the team responsible for the installation and commissioning of life safety equipment and the witnessing of such systems to Building Control from concept to completion.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To undertake an agreed programme of learning that leads to gaining a Nationally recognised and accredited Advanced qualification as part of an apprenticeship framework/standard. 
  • To actively participate in your development plan under the supervision of your line manager, sub-contractor management team and the College and university  assessor 
  • Deliver both the hands-on-experience working on-site, as well as ensuring the apprentice attends the approved college or training centre to learn the theoretical knowledge required
  • To work under supervision to learn your role. Specifics for each apprenticeship role can be found at the end of the job description. 
  • To work safely and competently in a site based environment and to always adhere to Group Health and Safety Standards.
  • Ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) is used at the appropriate time for each task being undertaken.
  • To undertake and take part in other duties, meetings, toolbox talks, workshops,  supervision, training and events as requested by your manager(s) that aids learning and development for your role. 
  • To demonstrate compassion and consideration for others, forming mutual trust and professional respect.
  • To operate with a ‘one team’ approach demonstrating flexible engagement with internal and external colleagues. 
  • To operate with consistent effort, overcoming obstacles to achieve a goal.

  • Keep a record  / logbook – Daily diary until the completion of the apprenticeship.  

Reporting Line will vary during the course of apprenticeship depending on the site attended and annual college tutor however, the Apprentice Programme Manager will always provide a main point of contact at Berkeley.
