We're pleased to announce that together with WM Morrison Supermarkets and Camden Council we have officially broken ground at Camden Goods Yard. Situated in the heart of Camden Town, this 8-acre brownfield site will be transformed into a mixed-use development, with 644 open market and affordable homes, a rooftop urban farm alongside a new flagship 55,000 sq ft Morrisons supermarket, Grade A office space, shops and cafes, maker workshops, and a range of community facilities.
Camden Goods Yard will create an open and welcoming new part of Camden, offering a range of high quality homes set within landscaped gardens and courtyards. The development will also provide 183,000 sq ft of commercial space including 115,000 sq ft of exceptional Grade A flexible office space and 6,000 sq ft affordable workspace for SMEs.
Building on the vibrancy of the local area, Camden Goods Yard will provide three acres of new landscaped open space for the whole community to enjoy. These spaces will include a mix of natural habitats, featuring wild planting, trees and extensive play facilities for children of all ages. The development is set to create a net biodiversity gain as the masterplan creates a far more valuable natural landscape that can support more wildlife and community wellbeing.
The largest area of public open space will be the Interchange Yard community space which will act as a focal point for the community with allotments, alongside three new public squares. There will also be a rooftop urban farm which will comprise both a growing facility and a rooftop café-restaurant for all to enjoy. These new community facilities also provide opportunities for delivering education and training on food and healthy eating.
With a commitment to deliver new jobs, the development will provide more than 780 jobs during construction, offer 73 apprenticeships and support more than 1,150 permanent jobs once the development is completed.
Piers Clanford, our Divisional Managing Director, said: "The groundbreaking represents a significant milestone in the regeneration of the Camden Goods Yard. Offering a fantastic mix of high-quality new homes, including 203 affordable homes, new Grade A office space and affordable workspace alongside a rooftop urban farm, this development will bring a wealth of new jobs and opportunities to the borough. We look forward to working with Morrisons, Camden Council, the community and other partners to bring our exciting new vision for Camden Goods Yard to life."
David Potts, CEO of Morrisons, said: "We've been working hard over the last four years to get to this point. It feels like a pivotal moment to be breaking the ground at the site along with our partner, St George, and Camden Council. We hope that the regeneration of this brownfield area and our development of a new flagship Morrisons store will create a positive extension to the already vibrant Camden community."
The new 8-acre development is located between Camden Town and Primrose Hill enabling residents to enjoy a vibrant part of North London which offers a wealth of independent shops, bars and restaurants in addition to the iconic Camden Market and Roundhouse music venue. Primrose Hill and Regent's Park are both less than a 20-minute walk away. Whilst Chalk Farm and Camden Town Station (Northern Line, Zone 2) are less than a 10-minute walk away.
