Award winning mixed-use developer St George hosted its annual Jobs and Careers Fair at Imperial Wharf, on the 29th January 2009. Over 300 people attended and visited over 30 exhibitors from the local area.
In partnership with Hammersmith & Fulham Council, the Jobs and Careers Fair was officially opened by Greg Hands, MP for Hammersmith and Fulham. It provided an opportunity for local people to find out more about the wide variety of job prospects in the local area, as well as careers advice and training opportunities from careers agencies and colleges.
Greg Hands MP said 'I was delighted to open the Imperial Wharf Jobs and Careers Fair which had been organised by St George in partnership with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham on 29 January 2009 and very pleased by the volume of businesses that exhibited and the range of people who attended the event. I'm so encouraged to see that St George and local businesses made this contribution to the local neighbourhood and its community. I know that people who got jobs from this event last year are representing their companies this year - that is a real achievement.'
Ross Faragher, Managing Director of St George Central London commented,
"St George is committed to unlocking the potential of urban areas and enhancing the quality of lives for people who live in and around those communities. Following last year's event, which was successful in placing local people into work, we are delighted that over 300 people attended the event this year. This event raised awareness of the wide range of training and employment opportunities within the retail, leisure and construction industries, building on the success of last year with operators such as childcare provider Bright Horizons and creative company Media Reach Advertising who recruited staff from last year's event."
Fiona Cunniffe, Imperial Wharf resident, found a job with Bright Horizons at last year's Jobs Fair and attended this year's Jobs and Careers Fair on behalf of Bright Horizons. She said 'Attending last year's Jobs and Careers Fair meant that I found a job working for Bright Horizons. They have given me support and training so that I can progress through the company. I never thought that if I attended the Jobs and Careers Fair last year that I would be standing here today talking to people about working in childcare!'
The event was held at The Wharf Rooms, Imperial Wharf, Imperial Road, London SW6, from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday 29th January 2009.
