London gym-goers who are looking to break the monotony of standard fitness classes are becoming increasingly well catered for, as new and unusual workout classes spring up across the capital.
From performing yoga three feet off the ground to electrical muscle stimulation, we've chosen the best and most unusual workouts to be found across London, with not a treadmill to be found.
1. Rumble at 1Rebel
Based in the heart of the City, 1Rebel has been making its mark on the London fitness scene with its popular high-intensity interval training (HIIT). 1Rebel feels rather more like a nightclub than a gym, but the boxing-based workout has you throwing punches rather than shapes and all in a 45-minute session. 1Rebel's studio is in an ideal location if you are a resident at Berkeley Group's London Dock development by St George, and after your workout you can always go home to make full use of the swimming pool and spa facilities available.
2. BXR London
Located in fashionable Marylebone on the very hip Chiltern Street, BXR is a boxing gym with a difference. BXR's stylish and well-thought-out interior is every inch the boutique gym, catering to all levels of ability - though you will be mixing with boxing and martial arts pros across a number of different combat disciplines. If you're in the mood for something even more intense, try their infamous Sweat classes.
If finding time for a workout can be a difficult task, E-Pulsive's Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) training might be the ideal choice for your busy life. They claim that a 20 minute EMS workout is equivalent to a 90 minute high-intensity gym session, burning around 500 calories. And the best part is that it can be done in the comfort of your own home or office.
4. Reformer Pilates at Heartcore
Making use of custom-built machines, Heartcore's dynamic Reformer Pilates classes involve a 55 minute intense full-body workout. The machines can seem daunting if you haven't ever used one before, but it only takes a few minutes to get the hang of them. Heartcore have nine studios across London, so you should be able to find a location close to you and your workplace.
Snow-covered mountains come to the city at Chel-Ski, just off the King's Road, to be precise. Chel-Ski offers indoor skiing and snowboarding, with three customisable slopes and coaching for all levels by fully-qualified instructors. An hour-long session can burn around 400 calories, but you'll have to go elsewhere for après ski.
Berkeley's new waterside Chelsea Creek development by St George is located a quick ten minute walk away from Chel-Ski. The development includes a fully equipped gym and spa for residents to enjoy.
6. Velocity at Core Collective
