Berkeley Homes (Capital) was named Large Apprentice Employer of the Year 2019 by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) in November, rewarding the work the division has done in recruiting and training apprentices, and promoting apprenticeships as a route to work.
Berkeley Homes (Capital)'s REACH scheme directly employs apprentices across seven London boroughs, always seeking to recruit from communities around the company's sites, and promoting built environment careers to young people in schools and colleges.
Since 2018 the programme has seen more than 50 apprentices join Berkeley sites and offices, with a dedicated team on hand to help recruits adjust to life in the work place and make the most of mentoring and training opportunities.
The REACH retention rate exceeded the industry average by 11% in 2018; an achievement that helped to earn the award nomination by CITB. Judges were also impressed by the personal approach that Berkeley Homes (Capital) has taken to tailor the experience for each recruit.
Stav Aristokle-Hill who manages the scheme within Berkeley Capital and was also award 'Apprentice Champion of the year' at the recent Berkeley Group apprentice awards, said "we are honoured to be awarded by CITB and to be recognised for the huge efforts we make in addressing the skills gap and nurturing construction talent of the future".
Justin Tibaldi, Managing Director of Berkeley Homes (Capital), said "Apprentices bring real energy and talent to our business and by investing in their development, we can ensure that the industry has the right skills for the future. A huge thanks to every member of our staff and our supply chain who but their all into upskilling and inspiring our apprentices."
