Berkeley First, part of residential developer Berkeley Group, secured planning consent from Medway Council last week for its residential scheme, the Boathouse, at Victory Pier next to Gillingham Marina.
The development will provide 124 homes in an eight-storey building with 10,000 sq ft of commercial units on the ground floor. It will also comprise a gym, WiFi-enabled lounge, offices for the Harbour Master and 9,000 sq ft of waterfront retail and leisure units.
The homes are due for completion in June 2011 and will include studios, one and two bedroom flats and three bedroom penthouses.
The development is the second phase of the Medway waterfront regeneration scheme which, when completed, will comprise more than 800 homes, a 120 bed Ibis hotel, a supermarket, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities.
The first phase comprises 600 student flats for the University of Kent, which are owned and operated by student accommodation provider, Liberty Living, and a 12,400 sq ft retail plaza where three units totaling 6,710 sq ft have been let to Subway, Domino's Pizza and Tesco.
