How YouTube Helped House Buyers at Silkstream, Hendon

After a lifetime living in the bustling city of Hong Kong, Frances and Joey began their search for a new London home.

Still residing in Hong Kong with their youngest daughter, and with their eldest daughter having recently graduated from University, a move to the UK seemed like the ideal next step that would reunite their family.

In search for the perfect home, the couple found their Zone 3 London home at via @EllyProperty, a popular YouTube channel and influencer who showcases homes for sale alongside their surrounding locations.

In conversation with new Silkstream homeowners, Frances and Joey

We sat down with the new home owners to find out more about their sales journey experience which led to them purchasing a two-bedroom apartment in Bower House at Silkstream.

A new home buying journey for those looking in London’s hotspot locations

“As our children got older, it was important to us that they continued to have a close sisterly bond and ensure that we could be together as a family”, says Frances. “We also needed ample indoor and outdoor space for the smallest member of our family, our five-year old British short haired cat, Emoji.”

“Space, quality and the local area were all top priorities for us”, she adds, “and our search began on YouTube to help visualise what life in London could look like for us. Each neighbourhood in London is so different, we wanted to find a convenient location that ticked all our boxes. YouTube videos are helpful because they quickly showcase all the key information about the properties available and the wider area. Given that we’ve purchased in the first building at Silkstream, we get to enjoy the investment that comes with the neighbourhood’s growth. There’s already the large Sainsbury’s, which is very convenient.

“Our family can also enjoy the range of resident amenities alongside our new home including a fitness space, screening room and co-working spaces, which is helpful for Joey who frequently works from home.

“From the YouTube video tours of the showhomes we were also able to view the reality of the look, feel and style of each home. Rather than relying on floorplans, 2D images and your own creative imagination, it felt like we were exploring the home in person, despite being thousands of miles away.

“We of course did lots of other research on the local area to help weigh up our decision. What’s on your doorstep is equally as important, so it’s great to see what the local community is like, what shops and restaurants there are, and what attractions there are nearby.”

Spacious city living with a country feel

“At Silkstream, we liked that we had more space inside and could also enjoy lots of different outdoor spaces – our own balcony, the resident gardens, and nearby parks and outdoor trails to explore.”

Joey adds that Silkstream is well positioned with lots of good nearby shops to enjoy. “Wembley itself is impressive, there’s also Edgware Road, Brent Cross and a nearby IKEA which – having moved from overseas – made moving and furnishing a new home very convenient.”

Connections into London were also a factor in their purchasing decision, with direct links into The City via the Thameslink & Northern Line stations both within walking distance, the couple adds:

“The train station is nearby, with fast train connections into Central London. This means we have lots of choice for the whole family and are moments from great attractions, restaurants, museums and theatres. This is helpful, especially when you come from another fast-paced global city.”

Peace of mind

When asked why the couple opted for a new build, Frances noted: “buying a new build was less hassle than if we were to purchase an older property, or somewhere that needed a lot of work. We knew exactly what we were expecting, and any snagging issues would be easily and quickly resolved.

“Purchasing through a respected brand, such as The Berkeley Group - who has a good reputation and is widely known for its quality which gave us peace of mind in our remote decision.”
