You’re Coming Home: Taking the Lioness Line to Your New Apartment at Camden Goods Yard
Although the England Men’s football team left fans wanting after their defeat in the Euros this past year, the country continues to celebrate the triumphant Lionesses following their heroic 2022 UEFA finals win.
One way in which they have been honoured is through the renaming of the Euston to Watford Junction part of the Overground, which is now known as the Lioness line due to its route through Wembley Central station and the extraordinary impact the win had on inspiring many women and girls to pursue football.
The renaming of this line forms part of the major revamp the London Overground network underwent in Autumn 2024, providing each service with new names and a distinctive colour scheme to help commuters and visitors alike navigate the various routes, whilst also highlighting London’s rich, historical and cultural past.
The services are now known as the Lioness line, the Mildmay line, the Suffragette line, the Windrush line, the Weaver line and the Liberty line, and three of which directly serve the Camden neighbourhood alongside a host of Underground and bus options.
Ideal for Camden residents, the Lioness Line serves one of the area’s major stations, Euston, with nearby stops at Camden Road and Kentish Town West on the Mildmay Line. Additionally, the Suffragette Line provides easy access to Gospel Oak.
Much like the Lioness line, the history behind the various stops was carefully considered when choosing the names for these routes, with the Suffragette line taking its name from its Barking stop, home of the longest surviving suffragette Annie Huggett, while the Mildmay line celebrates the small charitable hospital in Shoreditch that played an important role during the HIV/Aids crisis.
This new look for the Overground not only highlights Camden’s connectivity to the wider city but also aligns the borough with its deep roots in English culture.
Interested in making Camden your home?
