Berkeley marked 15 years of our partnership at Woodberry Down with a Winterfest celebration and Christmas light switch-on.
Hundreds of residents and members of the local community gathered for a light switch-on ceremony performed by London Borough of Hackney Mayor Caroline Woodley, before a ‘Winter Feast’ hosted in the Redmond Community Centre. Alongside this, residents were treated to carol singing from Fame Star Youth Choir and Sir Thomas Abney School choir.
The event was also a celebration of the partnership at Woodberry Down with London Borough of Hackney, Woodberry Down Community Organisation and Notting Hill Genesis, which has transformed Woodberry Down into one of Europe’s flagship regeneration projects.
Berkeley Capital Project Director Trevor Hughes said “Thank you to the residents and Mayor who joined us for this special Christmas celebration. 2024 was a milestone year for Woodberry Down as we marked 15 years here, so we are glad we could mark the end of the year with such an event. We are excited to continue our relationship with the local community as we soon commence Phase 4.”

Hackney Mayor Caroline Woodley said: “Mayor of Hackney, Caroline Woodley, said: “I came to Winterfest soon after I first became Mayor, so it was a pleasure to join everyone again, one year on, to switch on the lights.
“This year we marked 15 years of the regeneration, where we’re building thousands of new homes, including brand new social rent homes for existing secure council tenants on the estate to move into. The latest phase features beautiful new open spaces at the heart of nearly 511 homes, where residents will soon be moving in.”
The first 15 years of partnership has seen 2,300 homes delivered so far, including over 500 at social rent, 7 acres of parkland and a boardwalk to the Woodberry Wetlands, to connect the residents to nature. Alongside a range of facilities for the community, Woodberry Down has also delivered over £21 million of investment into local infrastructure and will have provided over 350 apprenticeships for young people in the area by the end of construction.
Construction is soon to commence on Phase 4 for Woodberry Down, delivering another 500 homes, a new community space, a civic square and more trees and green walkways. For more information on Woodberry Down and future plans there please click here.
