Running Routes to Enjoy at Berkeley Group Developments

Getting out and about for regular exercise can have major benefits for your health, as well as giving you a great opportunity to get to know your local area. Whether it's an early morning jog to help wake you up, a casual 5k on your weekend Strava run, or just a long stroll to break up to day, getting your move on can help get you in the right headspace as you tour some local landmarks.

We've compiled some points of interest you can discover around some of our popular developments as you walk, jog or run your way around running routes nearby

Abbey Barn Park - High Wycombe

The lovely town of High Wycombe is nestled within the luscious greenery of the Chiltern Hills, with our Abbey Barn Park development perfectly place on the south side of town so you can enjoy nature from the moment you step out of your door.

There's an abundance of woodland areas to explore on your run, including Deangarden Wood, Fennels Wood and King's Wood in the centre of town, with the National Trust featuring the Bradenham Bolt run - a trail run route through ancient beech woodland that's just as enjoyable to amble through as it is to jog along.

One of the most appealing places to run near High Wycombe would likely be Hughenden Park - a fantastic open green space with the National Trust Hughenden Manor at the centre. The manor makes for a great start point or stop off during your route for some light refreshments and change of pace, with the Hazelmere to Hughenden Park route being one to look into specifically for this.

For those looking for longer routes, there are a number of established running routes in High Wycombe which take you from the centre of town out into the neighbouring villages so you can enjoy their quaint aesthetics as you move through the gorgeous countryside in between. These range from 10k running routes to half marathons which appeal to those looking for a challenge or a goal to work towards.

South Quay Plaza - Canary Wharf

While the sprawling urban jungle of London might not conjure up the typical image of an interesting running route, the city still has plenty to offer those running through the streets and wandering around on lunchbreaks. Take the area surrounding our South Quay Plaza for example.

There are a few green spaces within close walking distance, like Mudchute Park, Millwall Park and Sir John McDougal Gardens, the docks and River Thames gives those looking for a scenic wander plenty of options which include some tranquil waterside views as well. The Millwall Inner and Outer Docks make for a nice internal 6km jogging circuit from South Quay, taking you through the Isle of Dogs and over Glengall Bridge which separates the two docks.

If the Thames takes your fancy then there's a longer route which walks the banks of the river, showcasing views out over toward Greenwich and Surrey Quays, with landmarks like the O2, Cutty Sark and Old Royal Naval College in a perfect panorama shot. The start of this 5 miles run takes you through Canary Wharf and passed One Canada Square, giving you an up-close and personal view of the skyscraper's imposing frame as you gaze up at this iconic part of London's skyline.

A little further afield, just over the River Thames, you can also enjoy Greenwich Park with lovely paths through the expansive fields and gentle hills for a change of scenery if you're in need of a little more greenery for your run.

Green Park Village - Reading

Our development in Reading, Green Park Village, is situated in an idyllic community surrounded by landscaped gardens and has a number of calming lakeside walks just minutes away. The neighbouring hamlet of Pingewood has lakes on all sides you can wander by and gaze out over the waters, while local walking paths will take you alongside the River Kennet and over toward the Fobney Island Nature Reserve if you want to stick close to the development.

Venturing closer to Reading itself, you'll find Prospect Park to the west and Christchurch Meadows to the north east of the city centre, both with ample space to set off on a leisurely walk or run to work up your stamina. The added benefit of running in Christchurch Meadows is that many of the paths will take you parallel to the River Thames, adding some tranquillity to your run that's just 10 minutes from Reading Station.

If you're willing to go further afield and make a day of your run or ramble, then some of the most gorgeous routes in Berkshire are within your grasp. Windsor Castle offers a great park run, or you can embark on the The Long Walk - four kilometres of double tree-lined avenue to slowly ramble up or run along toward The Copper Horse and beyond.

You can also take a trip along Britain's oldest road, the Ridgeway Trail. While the entirety would take you several days to walk along, the main public section offers a near-perfect jogging trail, with the final section leading up slowly to the Segsbury Hill Fort residing at the top of the Berkshire Downs.

Hollyfields - Kent

Over in Royal Tunbridge Wells, there are plenty of sensational, scenic running routes to be found near the Hollyfields development and around the surrounding area. Hollyfields is strategically placed in the neighbouring village of Hawkenbury, giving residents easier access to gorgeous nearby parks.

Camden Park, Dunorlan Park, Tunbridge Wells Common and Calverly Grounds - each one gives you the chance to stretch your legs and embrace the outdoors with a lovely walk or get your running shoes and set a new personal best.

Outside of what's in Royal Tunbridge Wells, you'll find huge swathes of verdant countryside to explore as well as small villages and towns to discover which have their own running routes too - like Bidborough to Southborough 6km which shows off some of the delightful views that can be found within the High Weald AONB.

There's plenty of opportunities out there to get out and exercise in amongst nature, without the use of gyms or equipment. All you need is a pair of trainers and the desire to explore the outdoors.
