St George, part of Berkeley Group, has unveiled a brand-new Showhome with sustainability at its core, at their Chelsea Creek development. The two-bedroom apartment, located in Westwood House - a collection of Manhattan, one, two and three-bedroom canalside apartments, has been designed by Untold Interiors, a studio renowned for their impressive track record, focus on sustainability and award-winning designs.
Each apartment at Westwood House capitalises on an abundance of natural light from their floor to ceiling windows, access to private outdoor terrace space, and impressive views out onto either the development’s landscaped gardens or the winding waterways. Untold has sought inspiration from the gardens, tree-lined avenues and the open spaces at Chelsea Creek to create a complimentary design with careful sourcing and a sense of ‘homefullness’ (a feeling of home and hope in our new era), at the core.
Annabel Hickton Co-Founder of Untold Interiors says: “We have focused our design on blending modern and traditional design to create a sense of home and wellbeing, by sourcing natural materials and pieces of furniture where possible. By only sourcing in the UK and Europe to limit our carbon footprint and by working with the very best master craftspeople on a number of bespoke pieces, nature and sustainability are at the heart of our inspiration. Now more than ever, homeowners seek interior design that limits its impact on the planet and ‘gives back’ in terms of its environmental credentials.”
The apartment includes an impressive entrance hallway, open plan kitchen/living space, two large bedrooms (one with an en-suite and dressing area), and a guest bathroom. The entrance hall and living room bring about an immediate sense of calm – Farrow & Ball Blue Gray paint has been chosen for the walls and on the ceiling there’s a high gloss finish to help reflect additional light into the rooms.
The hallway also has a beautiful bobbin cornice detail to add impressive texture. The apartment is dressed with cushions from the Untold Collection, using left over fabrics from past projects to avoid the fabrics going to waste.
The large open plan kitchen/living area, which benefits from an abundance of natural light both from the windows and the terrace, sparks a real feeling of indoor/outdoor living.
The bespoke joinery by Treeslounge, a London-based furniture craftsman, is in a locally-grown beechwood and displays a curation of artifacts, which tell a story. The sofa, designed by Love Your Home, is a soft, beige boucle designed to create an overall feeling of the textures found in nature. The coffee table is upholstered in a striking fabric by GP & J baker and is a focal part of the room. The dining table is a British-made oak and has bespoke fluted wall panelling behind it. The cork tables by Vitra in the living area are a standout feature of the design as they both draw the eye and highlight Untold’s focus on natural materials. The harvesting of cork doesn’t require any trees to be cut down - the aesthetic and sustainable focus of these tables compliment the overall design intent.
Samantha Liu Co-Founder of Untold says; “We’ve used a high gloss paint finish on the ceilings in the hallway and living room to help bounce natural light across the key living spaces. We wanted to maximise the very best of the light, which floods the apartment and in the living room we’ve used a bespoke limewash paint, which has no Volatile Organic Compounds - by using these types of products and materials throughout we’ve been able to stay true to our natural focus. Since coming out of the pandemic we are all more in touch with the benefits of nature and therefore we want those viewing the apartment to have a true nature led experience through the medium of design.”
When walking into the main bedroom, the eye is immediately drawn to the banana leaf pendants by award-winning, experimental design studio Ty Syml based in Pembrokeshire, South Wales. The wallpaper is in a striking design by bold design house, Drop It Modern and the bespoke curved headboard and vintage side tables give it a rich feel. Deep colours form the central focus of the guest bedroom with its limewash walls and side tables by sustainable British brand Galvin Brothers. These create a deep palette and a contrasting design experience. There is a distinctive mirror in rattan vintage, which is also sustainable and harks back to nature.
Stephen Kirwan, Regional Managing Director, St George West London, commented: “We are delighted with how Untold Interiors interpreted our brief – they grasped exactly what our buyers are looking for; clean lines, a focus on sustainability, careful sourcing and storytelling via design. The design takes those viewing the Showhome on an engaging, sensory journey, bringing the space to life and offering an insight into the lifestyle at Chelsea Creek. We couldn’t be prouder of how our show apartments have evolved.”
Those living at Chelsea Creek have access to state-of-the-art amenities including a cinema room, wellness centre, modern gym, spa, indoor heated pool, treatment room, rain shower and Scandinavian-style sauna and steam room, all of which are more important than ever for the holistic wellbeing of residents.
