St George, London's leading mixed-use developer, is delighted to announce the official opening of the riverside promenade and ground breaking of Fulham Reach on Wednesday 23rd May 2012. The event was attended by The Worshipful The Mayor of The London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, Councillor Frances Stainton and pupils of Melcombe Primary School.
Nick Hutchings, Managing Director of award winning developers St George Central London commented: "I am delighted to mark the official ground breaking of Fulham Reach, joined by The Worshipful The Mayor of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, Councillor Frances Stainton and Year 5 pupils from nearby Melcombe Primary School.
The children from Melcombe Primary School started the journey with St George 18 months ago when working with the local community during our consultation meetings on ways in which we could optimise the use of public spaces in this landmark development. Some of their ideas have been incorporated into the landscaping. This event marks the start of works at Fulham Reach which will create 744 homes, along with commercial and retail offerings surrounded by landscaped parkland and public riverside promenade for residents and the community to enjoy."
Fulham Reach is the transformation of the 7.25 acre site, into a thriving new riverside community, with shops, bars and restaurants, riverside promenade, landscaped gardens and community rowing club.
Residents of Fulham Reach will be able to enjoy the benefits of membership of a private lifestyle club. Members will be able to access facilities including a state of the art gymnasium, swimming pool, spa, private screening room, wine cellar, snooker room and golf simulator.
Fulham Reach is designed by award winning architects, John Thompson & Partners, John Thompson explains: "We wanted to create a place where every aspect of life can flourish. Somewhere that is both relaxing and stimulating, with a strong sense of environmental responsibility. A place where people really feel that they belong."
Spanning the River Thames, next to Fulham Reach, for more than 160 years, Hammersmith Bridge has marked a crucial point in the world famous Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race. Crews race at capacity to reach this point, and many have been won and lost from this very spot. The area around Fulham Reach is also famous for its famous residents. King Charles II was a frequent visitor to the area, while William Morris, founder of the Arts and Crafts Movement moved here in 1879. Mahatma Gandhi lived in Fulham when he studied law at University College, London. And Gustav Holst, the English composer of the famous orchestral suite, The Planets, was also a resident for most of his life.
Fulham's worldwide sporting prowess is also legendary. The Queen's Club is one of the finest racquet clubs in the world, with a history that dates back to 1886. The club hosts the annual precursor to Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships. Fulham is also home to three Premiership football Clubs, Chelsea, Queens Park Rangers and Fulham.
