Details have emerged of the proposed redevelopment of the Queensmere shopping centre in Slough - the first part of a massive regeneration scheme by British Land, on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. The plans include a new town square, urban park and extensive space for shops, restaurants, education facilities, offices, as well as a potential boutique cinema, live music venue and bars.

Third Part of Major Slough Regeneration Project Goes Ahead

The third part of a major regeneration project in Slough, known as Station Square, has been given the go-ahead and will see new offices and restaurants built on the Future Works site in the town centre.

Councillor James Swindlehurst, Leader of Slough Borough Council said: "With the green light given for the completion of Station Square, plans being submitted for the regeneration of the Thames Valley University site and the welcome news British Land will be submitting plans for the Queensmere Observatory Shopping centres this autumn, residents can look forward to an exciting future."

Slough's Thunderbirds-Themed 'Double-Decker' Hotel Opens

A 'double-decker' hotel has now opened in Slough - featuring nods to the town's past and a classic TV show. The Moxy has 152 rooms and incorporates graphics from Thunderbirds into its designs. The famous puppet show was filmed in Slough in the 1960s. The Residence Inn has 92 suites and offers views over the town skyline.

The hotel was a joint venture between Slough Council and Slough Urban Renewal (SUR). Andy Howell, general manager for SUR, said: "The hotels are a fantastic asset and our projects continue to be a catalyst for change in the town. As well as the essential accommodation they will provide for both business and leisure users, the additional bar and lounge facilities will give a new sense of life to this area of the high street.

Researchers studied Met Office data for the 50 biggest UK towns and cities for December, January and February and have found that Slough enjoys the highest average winter temperature, around 8C, has less rain and frost than anywhere else in Britain and milder winter winds.

Slough Mayor, Preston Brooker, said he wasn't surprised at the findings, adding: 'We have very clean air here and we get a lot of fresh, sunny days and that definitely makes the Slough winters more bearable.

Slough Attracts Highest Number of London Leavers in Berkshire

Slough had the highest net gain of people from London in Berkshire, with 2,011 more people moving from London to the area than went the other way.

That was the highest number of people arriving in the county from London in the nine years of available data. It means London suffered a net loss of 4,141 people to Berkshire - or 11 a day - although this was down from 4,268 in 2018, according to data from the Office of National Statistics.
