At the end of February 2012, Berkeley, the developer behind Kingsbrook Park, the popular riverside development in Canterbury, invited local art students to enter a competition to design a piece of art that will ultimately become a permanent feature in the foyer of the latest phase of apartments. The winning artist will receive a prize of £250 and have their artwork displayed for residents to enjoy for many years to come. One runner up will also receive £100 prize.
A number of entries have been received, and Berkeley's directors have created a shortlist of the best submissions, which are currently on display at Kingsbrook Park and are ready for public voting. It is now down to the residents of Canterbury to decide which artist deserves to win.
Tina Dedman, Sales and Marketing Director for Berkeley explains: "We are delighted by the quality of art work received, and have narrowed the entries down to a shortlist of 7 pieces, which are forming an exhibition that is open to public viewing at Kingsbrook Park.
"We would like to encourage as many local residents, as well as friends, colleagues and family of the applicants, to come down and view the Shortlisted art works and vote for their favourite," Tina concluded.
The winner will be announced at a formal ceremony on Tuesday 15th May from 6 to 8pm at Kingsbrook Park in the new show apartment.
Situated in the historic city of Canterbury in a tranquil riverside location, Kingsbrook Park is a collection of one, two and three bedroom apartments, and three, four and five bedroom houses. The site is bordered on three sides by the River Stour and boasts views of Canterbury's ancient Cathedral.
The public voting is now open daily at the Sales and Marketing Suite between 10am and 6pm and will close at 6pm on Saturday 12th May. Voting slips can be collected from the Sales and Marketing suite (one per person) which is located at 5 Westwood Drive, off Kingsmead Road, Kingsbrook Park, Canterbury, CT2 7WY.
