Winner to receive £250 prize - artwork to become a permanent feature at Kingsbrook Park, Canterbury
Berkeley, the property developers behind Kingsbrook Park in Canterbury, is giving local art students the opportunity to design a piece of art which will ultimately become a permanent feature in the foyer of the latest phase of apartments at the popular riverside development. The winning artist will receive a prize of £250 and have their artwork displayed for residents to enjoy for many years to come. One runner up will also receive £100 prize.
Situated in the historic city of Canterbury in a peaceful riverside location, Kingsbrook Park is a collection of one, two and three bedroom apartments and three, four and five bedroom houses. The site is bordered on three sides by the River Stour and boasts views of Canterbury's ancient Cathedral.
Paula Clark, Careers Service Manager, for The University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury (UCA), explains, "The UCA welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with local businesses committed to supporting our emerging creative professionals. The Kingsbrook Park Art Competition provides an excellent opportunity to showcase local talent as the winning art piece will become a permanent feature of the interior design of the Riverside Apartments foyer. We are delighted Berkeley is launching this exciting competition and inviting our students to take part."
Tina Dedman, Head of Sales & Marketing for Berkeley explains: We are delighted to be able to create an opportunity that will cultivate and reward local artistic talent and involve the wider community too. The Berkeley directors will be creating a short list of works which we will then display for public voting. Canterbury's residents will then decide which artist deserves to win.
From Monday 23rd April, we will be inviting the local community, friends, colleagues and family of the applicants to come down and view the Shortlisted art works and vote for their favourite. We do hope that everyone will come down to Kingsbrook Park to support all the students involved, Tina concluded.
Berkeley is inviting applicants to register via email: kingsbrookparkart@lucre.co.uk or in person at the Sales and Marketing suite which is located at 5 Westwood Drive, off Kingsmead Road, Kingsbrook Park, Canterbury, CT2 7WY. The development is open 7 days per week, between 10am and 6pm.
The deadline for submitting the completed artwork is 20th April 2012. The public voting will open on Monday 23rd April and will close at 5pm on Saturday 12th May. Voting slips can be collected from the Sales and Marketing suite (one per person).
