As the lockdown restrictions are lifted across the UK, event organisers are looking ahead to the rest of summer to plan their events. With 2020 spent in lockdown, many events were pushed back to 2021, and so fortunately, we've got a big few months ahead of us to make the most of our newfound freedoms.
London has always been a thriving hub of things to see and do, and its events calendar is legendary in its reputation - it's one of the things that makes the capital such a fantastic place to find a new home. For a tantalising event series of prestige and pure musical class, you just can't beat the BBC Proms! For several months throughout the summer, the iconic Albert Hall, along with numerous venues across the capital, opens up to the biggest classical musicians and singers that the world has to offer. The results is an unforgettable set of concerts and performances that draw from all corners of the musical globe, wowing audiences with international musical talent.
The finale is the magnificent Last Night at the Proms, a resplendent celebration of the artists who have come before and a tribute to the nation's love for music. Tickets are on sale now at the BBC Proms website - starting from just £6.
RHS Chelsea Flower Show
Each year, gardeners, florists, horticulturalists and an audience of the general public all gather at the Royal Hospital Chelsea to indulge themselves in glorious floral displays, made up of flowers and plants from across the globe. Entertaining nearly 150,000 each year (pre-COVID), this year's edition has the theme of the NHS and the work of nurses throughout the pandemic, a worthy theme that pays homage to the incredible work done by medical professionals across 2020 and 2021.
The result is set to be a splendid showing of botanical beauty, shaped by leading designers whose passion for all things horticultural shine through every exhibit. The show normally takes place in May, though it has been moved this year to the 21st to the 26th of September. Remember to get your tickets soon - they're famous for selling out quickly. London Fashion Week September
Lights, glamour, style, the London Fashion Week September is one of the biggest weeks of the year for fashion enthusiasts. Fashionistas from all walks of life flood the streets of London to catch the latest looks, learn from the fashion experts and attend prestigious runway shows. Attendees get to see the latest works from the biggest fashion houses in the world, all set to bring their autumn collections to one of the biggest stages there is.
There are events across the city, so it's always best to check up on the things you want to see before you go. A provisional line-up of both in-person and digital events from nearly 102 designers has been released, set for 17th-21st of September - find out more on the London Fashion Week website.
Greenwich+Docklands International Festival 2021
Once a year, the Greenwich and Docklands areas of London come alive with lights, colours, sounds and music as the Greenwich+Docklands International Festival rolls into town. A fabulous array of art exhibits, music performances, dance events and circus shows are dotted on every street corner, brought to the London public by a dizzying roster of artists and performers, both from the UK and from further afield.
Not to be missed is the Borealis light show. Taking its name from the iconic Aurora Borealis, this magnificent showing of electric lights in all of their glory showers Greenwich and Woolwich with unforgettable colour. Catch this event and many more from the 27th of August to the 11th of September.
