Cllr Jit Ranabhat, the new Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, and the Mayoress visited Kidbrooke Village in July for Kidbrooke Carnival; a vibrant celebration of local people and culture in the heart of the neighbourhood.
The free community event was attended by hundreds of local people, who enjoyed music, dance, shows and crafts.
The day was kicked off with a lively carnival parade around the centre of Kidbrooke Village and in Cator Park, with many people sporting costumes and props made together in community arts workshops.
The event was led by TARU Arts, who returned to the home of their first ever carnival 20 years on. TARU Arts is a not-for-profit art and education group delivering events and projects across the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The Mayor of Royal Borough of Greenwich Cllr Jit Ranabhat said: “It was wonderful to be here at Kidbrooke Village today to join local people and celebrate the rich mix of cultures that make the Royal Borough of Greenwich so special. There’s clearly a really strong community in Kidbrooke, and it’s great to see so many people come together and throw themselves into such an uplifting event.”
Paul Prichard, Development Director at Berkeley Capital, said “It’s really special for us to welcome TARU Arts back to Kidbrooke for the first time in 20 years. The area has totally transformed in that time and it’s wonderful to see so many local people here today, enjoying Kidbrooke Village’s town centre and community park. We have a busy calendar of events throughout the year and we hope that everyone here today will continue to visit us and enjoy community life.”
Kidbrooke Village offers plenty of spaces for local people to enjoy, including Kite Park by award-winning designers Apes, a newly refurbished Multi-Use Games Area, 20-acre Cator Park and a busy town centre with GP surgery, nursery, supermarkets, coffee shops and a regular food market.
