To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, a beautiful display of poppies was unveiled at Berkeley Homes' Cranleigh development, Leighwood Fields, on Wednesday 4th November. Children from Jigsaw School, who created the poppies, were joined by their Deputy Headteacher Mariann Szabo and the Leighwood Fields Sales Team to acknowledge Remembrance Day and honour our fallen soldiers, both past and present.
Children from Jigsaw School hand-crafted over 50 poppies, created from recycled plastic bottles that they painted and mounted onto garden canes to 'plant' at the development. The resulting field of poppies has created a glorious vision of colour outside Berkeley Homes' development at Leighwood Fields and is the perfect mark of respect for the fallen.
Ben Annetts, Sales and Marketing Director Berkeley Homes Southern, said: "I would like to pass on a huge thanks to the wonderful children of Jigsaw School for creating such an amazing display of poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day. This is the first time that such an important event has been celebrated at Leighwood Fields, and all of the children should be commended for the fantastic effort they have gone to in creating these poppies to honour the fallen. At Berkeley, we are proud that community is at the heart of everything we do, and this event has been great way to engage with the local Cranleigh community and bring such an important anniversary to the children's attention."
Deputy Headteacher at Jigsaw School, Mariann Szabo, comments: "We were delighted Berkeley Homes invited us to participate in such a meaningful local art installation commemorating Remembrance Day 2020. Collectively, our pupils made 86 bottle poppies, 3 tissue paper poppies and a laminated wreath. We are very proud of them for completing so many beautiful pieces."
