Resident Story: Why Philip Chose Lombard Square in Greenwich
After several years living outside London, Philip was looking for a home that would reconnect him with the capital without sacrificing space or access to green surroundings. He found both at Lombard Square in Plumstead, where he now lives overlooking one of the development's landscaped podium gardens.
Set around a beautifully landscaped 1.8-acre Garden Square in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Lombard Square brings together thoughtfully crafted homes, green open space and convenient connections into London.
Having previously lived in East London and Essex, Philip was looking for a home that would reconnect him with the capital.
“I wanted somewhere that felt spacious and well connected,” he explains. “What struck me about Lombard Square was the amount of green space and the feeling of calm.”
Space to Breathe: Living Around Lombard Square's Garden Square
“The Garden Square is a huge part of what attracted me here,” he says. “I don’t think I could live somewhere that felt like an urban jungle. Having such a large, well-maintained green space right at the heart of the development makes a huge difference.”
A keen hiker and wildlife watcher, Philip has found plenty to enjoy among the wildflowers and biodiversity-focused planting.
“I’ve seen migratory butterflies, dragonflies and lots of other wildlife here. The landscaping really does live up to expectations. Often marketing looks better than reality, but in this case, it genuinely feels as good as it looked.”
A Home Shaped Around Everyday Life
Philip’s apartment has made room for both his work and his passions.
“The apartment is incredibly practical,” he says. “There’s much more storage space than I expected, and the higher ceilings and large windows make every room feel spacious.”
Working from home several days a week, he has turned one of the bedrooms into an office, creating a clear separation between work and personal life.
The hallway, meanwhile, has found a purpose of its own.
“I’m a huge book collector, and I realised I could line the hallway with bookshelves and fit my entire collection there. It means the living spaces remain open while everything is organised in one place.”
But it’s the everyday details that have made the biggest difference.
“I love the amount of light I get and the fact that I can see so much sky. The view is always changing, whether it’s the sunset, the clouds or the city skyline in the distance.”
Connected to Everything London Has to Offer
Since moving to Plumstead from outside London, Philip has the city within easy reach while still coming home to somewhere quieter.
“It’s a lot easier now to meet friends, visit galleries, go to the theatre or attend meetings in town,” he says. “I can be in Central London very quickly and still be back home again within a few hours.”
National Rail services run from Plumstead Station, just a 4-minute walk from home, with the Elizabeth line and DLR connections available from nearby Woolwich.
“People are often surprised by how connected this part of London is. The transport links here are excellent, and having several different ways to travel was definitely a factor in my decision to buy.”
Everyday Convenience on the Doorstep
As the community at Lombard Square grows, on-site amenities such as the 24-hour concierge and the newly opened on-site supermarket have become an important part of Philip’s daily life.
“The concierge team have been incredibly helpful and friendly, and having Tesco right on the doorstep is a huge convenience, if you’ve forgotten something or just need a few things.”
With more residents and amenities on the way, he’s looking ahead.
“I see this as a long-term home, so it’s exciting to watch the development grow and see what comes next for the area.”
Why Lombard Square Feels Like Home
As a homeowner and experienced property investor, Philip weighed his purchase carefully, and it was Lombard Square’s quality and long-term potential that gave him confidence.
“The value for money was very strong, but more importantly it was somewhere I could genuinely see myself living,” he says. “The space, the light, the views and the design all stood out.”
Looking back, one thought often comes to mind.
“After settling in, I found myself wondering why I hadn’t moved back to London sooner.”
