Moving to Slough: How One Family Found Community at Horlicks Quarter
Moving to Slough has become an increasingly popular choice for families seeking more space, strong transport links and a sense of community within easy reach of London. For Pratik and Neha, relocating to Slough from London marked the start of a new chapter, one that offered the balance of lifestyle, connectivity and long-term opportunity they were looking for.
Moving to the UK: Starting the Search for a Family Home
When Pratik Kate (31) and his wife, Neha Bhamre (32), relocated from India to the UK in 2021 with their daughter, Gargi, they began their new chapter in a rented apartment in London's Docklands. As they settled into life in Britain, they started thinking about a more permanent home that would support their family's future.
Why Moving to Slough Stood Out for This Family
As first-time buyers, the couple explored a range of locations across the South East. Their priorities were clear: excellent schools, strong transport connections and a place where they could build a long-term future.
As they planned their move, the search ultimately led them to Slough in Berkshire.
'We finally decided upon Slough due to the great selection of grammar schools and the excellent transport links back into London,' says Pratik. 'We both have to work in the office at least two days a week, so having easy access to the Elizabeth Line is incredibly helpful.'
The combination of outstanding educational opportunities, connectivity and a family-friendly environment made moving to Slough an attractive choice.
Finding a Home at Horlicks Quarter in Slough
The family first came across Horlicks Quarter while browsing Rightmove.
'We found the Berkeley Homes development, Horlicks Quarter, on Rightmove and the fact it was already an established community definitely added to the appeal,' says Neha.
The couple were also reassured by Berkeley's reputation and the quality of the development.
'We researched Berkeley Group and felt confident knowing it is a listed company with strong governance and compliance standards. Buying a new home also meant we could benefit from a low-maintenance property with a high energy rating.'
A Home Designed for Modern Family Life
While most homes at Horlicks Quarter are apartments, the development also features a collection of Urban Houses.
Pratik explains: "We reserved our three-bedroom house in June 2025 for £630,000 and moved into our new home in December 2025.
The home offers a fantastic open-plan living space on the ground floor, alongside an additional lounge or study on the top floor,'
One of the standout features for the family is the private roof terrace.
'Unfortunately, we have busy lives, so we simply don't have time to maintain a garden. The roof terrace gives us our own private outdoor space to enjoy fresh air without the upkeep. We also have access to the beautiful communal Aquifer Gardens.'
Becoming Part of a Community
For the Kates, one of the biggest benefits of moving to Horlicks Quarter has been the strong sense of community.
'Berkeley has organised several social events that have helped us meet our neighbours and feel part of the community,' says Pratik.
Residents also enjoy access to a range of exclusive amenities, including a gym, private cinema, concierge service, communal gardens, on-site café, co-working space and Pilates studio.
Together, these facilities help create an environment where residents can connect, relax and enjoy spending time close to home.
Living in Slough With Easy Access to London
Although the family occasionally misses the pace of London life, they believe they have found the ideal balance.
'Sometimes we miss the buzz of living in London, but we now spend much more time at home because we live in such a lovely house,' says Pratik.
'And if we do want to head into London, we're only 14 minutes away by train.'
Why Moving to Slough Was the Right Decision
For Pratik and Neha, buying at Horlicks Quarter was about more than finding a place to live. It was about becoming part of a thriving community and choosing a location that supports their family's future.
With excellent schools, fast connections into London, high-quality amenities and a welcoming neighbourhood atmosphere, Their move to Slough has provided everything they were looking for in a family home.
For the Kates, the move has delivered more space, a stronger sense of belonging and a lifestyle that balances convenience, community and long-term aspirations.
