Berkeley Group welcomed the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, to its St Joseph Glasswater Locks development last week as the Government continues to put increasing housing supply at the heart of its growth agenda.
The Chancellor was joined by West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker and Berkeley Group Chair Rob Perrins for a tour of the complex brownfield site in Birmingham’s Eastside regeneration area. She met apprentices working on the project, hearing first-hand about their training and career journeys in the construction industry.
Glasswater Locks exemplifies both the challenges of urban regeneration, and the hugely positive economic and social benefits these projects deliver once construction begins. It also demonstrates the need for cross-sector partnership and collaboration to maintain housing delivery through challenging times and to unlock the big growth opportunities in towns and cities across the UK.
Berkeley Group believes that brownfield regeneration sites, like Glasswater Locks, represent the most sustainable and positive form of homebuilding, delivering good green homes where they are needed most and driving the growth and productivity the country needs.
