Berkeley has today handed over 43 affordable-rented homes to PA Housing. The homes are in Eden Grove, a new development of nearly 500 homes in Staines-Upon-Thames.
The occasion was marked and celebrated by Cllr Denise Saliagopoulos, the Mayor for Spelthorne, who cut the ribbon in front of Fern House. The first homes are ready for residents to move into.
Set around landscaped gardens, the collection of studio, 1 and 2-bedroom apartments will be allocated using Spelthorne council’s priority housing list. Many of the homes offer sweeping views of the Surrey countryside or overlook the shared garden courtyard.
On the ground floor there is a retail unit which offers flexible commercial space that could house a range of businesses.
Paul Vallone, Divisional Managing Director, Berkeley St Edward, said:
“We have been proud to deliver these much-needed affordable homes in such a fantastic location – less than five minutes from Staines-Upon-Thames high street and a short walk from the train station. They all benefit from a beautiful shared courtyard and community garden, providing some welcome green space in this busy part of town. I am pleased that Tom Pocock, Managing Director was able to share the special moment with Spelthorne Council and PA Housing.”
Mayor of Spelthorne, Cllr Denise Saliagopoulos, said:
“It is pleasing when developers recognise the need to work with the local authority to build much more affordable housing on brownfield land to meet local demand. I am sure the residents moving in will be delighted with their new home and I wish them all the best for the future.”
PA Housing, said:
“We’re thrilled that, through working alongside Berkeley and Spelthorne Council, Eden Grove will provide much needed affordable homes to rent in Spelthorne. We’re excited to welcome our newest residents to PA, and hope they enjoy living in such a beautiful setting for many years to come.”
Eden Grove, a brownfield regeneration, will provide a total of 489 private and affordable homes, 18,000 sq ft of office and commercial space, a new pedestrian crossing, a public courtyard for everyone to enjoy and a 20 ft swan sculpture to celebrate Staines-Upon-Thames’ history of swan upping.
The re-development is creating more nature with a 99% bio-diversity net gain and 34 new trees. The energy strategy for the building is fully electric with Solar PV Panels and Air Source Heat Pumps to make the development cleaner and greener.
At its peak, Eden Grove will employ up to 250 people, sustaining hundreds of jobs during its five-year construction programme. Over 20% of the directly employed project team are currently in ‘learning and earning’ positions. The development will leave behind around 20 permanent jobs as part of its legacy.
