The Green Quarter Project Director Wins Pride in the Job Quality Award for the Second Year Running in 2021

Berkeley West Thames Project Director Stephen Still and his team won a Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC) in 2021. Selected from a field of more than 10,000 candidates, he received the accolade in recognition of his and his team's efforts at The Green Quarter in Southall, West London.

This marked the second consecutive year that Stephen and his team had received the award, reflecting their continued commitment to delivering quality homes and maintaining high standards across the development.

What is the NHBC Pride in the Job Award?

The NHBC Pride in the Job Awards are widely regarded as one of the UK house-building industry's most respected awards programmes. They recognise site managers who demonstrate exceptional leadership, technical expertise and commitment to quality throughout the construction process.

Each year, judges assess thousands of site managers across the UK, examining everything from health and safety and site management to workmanship, consistency and attention to detail. Quality Award winners represent the top performing site managers in the competition.

In 2021, Stephen won within the large housebuilder category, placing him among the highest-performing site managers in the country.

Recognition for Quality at The Green Quarter

The Green Quarter combines the natural world with modern living, and Stephen and his team worked tirelessly to create a place that seamlessly features both. They impressed judges with their approach to quality and attention to detail, as well as their thorough inspection regime and use of digital records to support construction standards across the development.

The award recognised not only the quality of the homes being delivered, but also the processes and leadership required to maintain consistently high standards across a large and complex regeneration project.

Stephen Still on Winning the Award

Stephen Still, Project Director at Berkeley West Thames, said:

"Winning this award is an achievement for everyone working at The Green Quarter, especially as it recognises our consistently high standards two years in a row. Every day I see the commitment and dedication of the team to building high-quality homes and developing a place filled with trees, plants and wildlife for the whole community to enjoy.
We're all excited and motivated by the vision for this former brownfield site, but of course it is fantastic to have our efforts recognised as well. Thank you to NHBC for organising the awards."

How Winners Were Judged

Judging for the 2021 Pride in the Job Awards scheme began in July 2020 and focused on six key aspects of a site manager's role:

  • Consistency
  • Leadership
  • Interpretation of drawings and specifications
  • Technical expertise
  • Health and safety
  • Quality of workmanship across the site

The Quality Award winners, representing the top five per cent of entrants, progressed to the next stage of the competition, the NHBC Seal of Excellence.
