Ten years ago, a partnership between Woodberry Down Community Organisation, Hackney Council, Berkeley and Genesis Housing Association began to transform one of London's most deprived housing estates.
Since then, Woodberry Down has started to change into a safe and beautiful place where the local community can stay and thrive. The masterplan will take 25 years to complete and see 1,890 post-war properties replaced by more than 5,500 high quality mixed tenure homes.
The estate's physical regeneration, epitomised by the wonderful Woodberry Wetlands Centre, is matched by community engagement and support programmes. These range from the Hidden River Festival to a host of culture, art, training and food clubs.
As a result, 77% of people living here feel satisfied with their life overall compared to 49% across London and 56% of people across the UK.
