The Green Quarter kicked off the festive season in style with a delightful Christmas Market hosted at Parkside Yards on the 30th November. The crisp winter's evening created the perfect setting for the festivities, with mulled wine and mince pies ready for all. The hugely popular event was a true community celebration, with over 400 visitors from residents and the local community coming together to enjoy all things merry and bright, including live music and carols from local schools, churches and groups, and arts & crafts activities organised by Mandie at Open Southall.
The market itself featured a fantastic and diverse array of stalls from local businesses, offering a unique shopping experience with an eclectic range of items to explore. From honey, to handmade baubles, to crafted embroidery, visitors had the opportunity to discover and appreciate the talents and offerings of local artisans and entrepreneurs who sat alongside one another to provide a wonderful display of treasures. Meanwhile, on-site café Pinafresco served delicious Bratwurst to warm everyone up during the evening.
Notable guests included Councillor Hitesh Tailor the Mayor of Ealing, MP Virendra Sharma, local councillors, and Marcus Blake, the regional managing director of St George City, who all proudly hosted the countdown to the big switch on which centred around the 20ft Nordman Fir tree in the piazza and continued on an enchanting light trail through the tree nursery. Of course, with nature at the heart of The Green Quarter, visitors were delighted to find that the real life Comet and Cupid had joined us for the evening to add a touch of magic, and everyone enjoyed the wonderful experience of meeting these stunning reindeer.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit from Santa Claus, who captivated the crowd from his prime position by the main tree, listening to wishes from visitors young and old. His special sleigh for the evening was the incredible work of the students at Southall Community College, whose woodwork skills were certainly put to brilliant use for the occasion.
A huge thank you to all the visitors who made the evening so special by joining in the festivities, it was wonderful to see so many come together and enjoy the atmosphere. Our appreciation also extends to all those who collaborated in the event, the success of which was undoubtedly a result of the efforts of everyone involved, and we very much look forward to continuing this festive tradition over the coming years.
