Cashmere Wharf at London Dock – a growing central London neighbourhood, delivered by St George, a proud member of the Berkeley Group, has scooped up ‘Best High-Volume New Housing Development’ for London at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence awards 2023.
The successful regional entry sees the Cashmere Wharf building further shortlisted as a finalist for the prestigious and industry-leading ‘Grand Finals’, which will be hosted in January 2024.
Set in beautifully landscaped squares and walkways and animated by a strikingly choreographed water feature, Cashmere Wharf is designed by world-renowned architects, Patel Taylor. Cementing its place on the city skyline, the building comprises 141 contemporary Manhattan one, two and three-bedroom apartments, each with their own balcony or terrace. Residents can further enjoy exclusive access to The Club – a collection of private members club-style amenities and facilities – and 24-hour concierge.
The LABC Building Excellence Awards are the largest business-to-business awards in the building control sector in the UK, celebrating pioneering construction and design projects.
Cashmere Wharf at London Dock was awarded ‘Best High-Volume New Housing Development’ due to the design excellence and collaborative approach adopted by St George throughout the delivery of the project. The judges noted that a combination of a network of experts and high-quality control and safety programmes across the development enabled safe and effective construction - which thus overcame significant structural challenges.
Rich in maritime and trading history and creating 1,800 new homes, flexible workspaces, shops and restaurants, London Dock is a contemporary tapestry of leading architecture, interactive public spaces and 7.5 acres of open spaces and gardens.
Around Pennington Quay Walk and Gauging Square – an interactive central piazza inspired by the French Miroir d’eau at the Place de le Bourse in Bordeaux - new bars and eateries are waiting to be discovered, including newly opened Slurp Noodles, Urban Baristas, and Mother Dough, alongside artisan champagne bar Champagne Route and City Pharmacy, which opened this summer. The Grade II* Listed Pennington Street Warehouse is being sensitively restored into creative and flexible workspaces that are reflective of the post-pandemic work/life balance.
The large private residents’ courtyard water garden, linked by expansive walkways, has a selection of perennial semi-mature trees, flowers and shrubs, creating a sense of calm and tranquillity. Residents can also enjoy a 24-hour concierge, virtual driving range, gym, squash court, Jacuzzi, sauna, swimming pool, residents lounge and private screening room. The development is surrounded by shops, restaurants, cafes and workspaces, with the Tower of London and St Katharine Docks nearby. Only a short walk from Tower Hill and Aldgate, and connected to the new Elizabeth Line via Whitechapel, Wapping has been put firmly back on the London map.
