Within the UK, Kumon already has a large footprint with over 650 study centres that deliver maths and English worksheet-based study programmes to more than 70,000 children. The brand caters to children of all ages and abilities and supports its students to study beyond their school grade level, with the help of its skilled and committed Instructors who have a passion for developing students. The Kumon Institute of Education was founded in 1958 in Japan and Kumon's unique method of learning was developed in 1954 by Toru Kumon, a gifted Japanese teacher.
Craig Carson, Managing Director of St George West London, commented:
"We are delighted that Kumon has chosen to open a new study centre at Dickens Yard. It is an excellent brand which will introduce a range of age groups to experience Dickens Yard's unique offering. The letting represents another step forward in our vision for Dickens Yard to become a leading lifestyle hub in West London."
Maurice Mullins, Deputy Senior Leader - Kumon Europe & Africa Ltd., said:
"As part of Kumon's mission to develop the ability of all children, we are excited to be opening a new study centre in the prestigious Dickens Yard, in addition to the 11 Kumon study centres already developing students in the borough of Ealing. The centre will not only be an invaluable and convenient learning environment for children living nearby but also a training ground for Kumon Instructors from across the UK and Ireland. We look forward to opening the new centre's doors later this year and working within the community to support the development of children of all ages."
Situated in West London's Ealing, Dickens Yard will be completed in 2019 and feature 700 new homes, 104,000 sq ft of retail space and a new elegantly landscaped public square. St George has developed the Dickens Yard area into one of West London's best leisure spots where the local community can now enjoy a wide range of lifestyle and food brands such as Tri Yoga, Benham and Reeves and the popular eatery Charlotte's W5. In 2018, Dickens Yard is due to welcome a host of new commercial brands including: Tonkotsu, Balans Soho Society, Gail's Bakery, Gymbox, Blo Bar and Skinny Kitchen, as well as a Jigsaw.
Kumon is another step in the transformation by St George of Ealing Broadway ahead of the arrival of the Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) in 2018. The new station will halve journey times to central London, with travel to Bond Street in 11 minutes, Liverpool Street in 18 minutes and Canary Wharf in 25 minutes. Heathrow Airport, terminals two and three, will be just 15 minutes away via the new line.
