Over the past eleven months, London Dock's Grade II listed Pennington Street Warehouse has been brought to life by an interactive and highly creative dining experience by local food artists Gingerline.
Constructed in 1908, the Pennington Street Warehouse was originally used to house cargo held in bond, as part of the first enclosed commercial docks in the capital which occupied the site where London Dock now stands.
Celebrating its architectural standing and historic value, the vaulted basement within the warehouse has recently finished hosting a secretive dining adventure operated by gastronomic theatre specialists Gingerline, welcoming over 15,000 guests since April 2016.
Each Gingerline installation is hosted in secret, with its location only disclosed to attendees at the very last moment. These inventive dinners are also played out to an intricate theme, reflected in the location of choice.
For London Dock, dinner guests followed the story of Madame Gingerline, once a celebrated soprano turned murderess who, alongside her brother, the sorcerer chef Al Dente, prepare a feast on the eve of her daughter's wedding.
Marcus Blake, Managing Director, St George City commented:
"The creative arts have played an important role in bringing new life to London Dock and it has been thrilling to see how Gingerline have animated the grand vaulted ceilings and exposed brickwork of the Pennington Street Warehouse with their theatrical dining experience.
"Wapping is an area rich in artistic talent and we are incorporating this creativity into the permanent fabric of London Dock through artist studios with Bow Arts, and the Trading Words installation by artist Gordon Young which is integrated into the pathways of the new development."
Gingerline has now come to an end at London Dock, however a pop-up exhibition highlighting the history and heritage of the site, and documenting the design and creation of the Trading Words installation will be open until June 2017.
