On Tuesday 15 March 2016, the developer hosted ten NAWIC members on a site tour led by Kasia Dziala (Technical Coordinator at Chelsea Creek) and Julia Libera, Business Administration apprentice training on the site. NAWIC members discussed how to encourage women into traditionally male-dominated jobs through initiatives such as training, mentoring and networking.
Cristina Lanz Azcarate, London and South East Chair of NAWIC UK commented:
"Our organisation supports the development of talented people in the construction industry and engages with the next generation. It is fantastic that during National Apprenticeship Week, NAWIC and St George are celebrating the important role that on-site training plays in helping women gain valuable, long-term careers in this industry."
Julia Libera, Business Administration apprentice and 29-year-old Hammersmith resident commented:
"I am delighted to be starting my career in construction through an apprenticeship at Chelsea Creek. Working in the project office, I am learning new skills every day. I've always had an interest in architecture so it's exciting to be supporting the construction team on such a high quality development."
Matt Bostock, Managing Director, St George Developments commented:
"St George is committed to supporting diversity in construction. It is vital for our industry that talented and hardworking people from all backgrounds are encouraged into construction roles. Delivering apprenticeships and other employment initiatives, as well as working with bodies such as NAWIC, are important ways of doing this."
