St George Encourages Women Into Construction During National Apprenticeship Week

On Tuesday 15 March 2016, the developer hosted ten NAWIC members on a site tour led by Kasia Dziala (Technical Coordinator at Chelsea Creek) and Julia Libera, Business Administration apprentice training on the site. NAWIC members discussed how to encourage women into traditionally male-dominated jobs through initiatives such as training, mentoring and networking.

It is fantastic that during National Apprenticeship Week, NAWIC and St George are celebrating the important role that on-site training plays in helping women gain valuable, long-term careers in this industry."

Julia Libera, Business Administration apprentice and 29-year-old Hammersmith resident commented:

"I am delighted to be starting my career in construction through an apprenticeship at Chelsea Creek. Working in the project office, I am learning new skills every day. I've always had an interest in architecture so it's exciting to be supporting the construction team on such a high quality development."

The Chelsea Creek development by St George will deliver 489 homes, 147 of which are affordable, 110,000 sq ft of commercial space and five acres of landscaped public realm. The masterplan designed by renowned architects Squire and Partners includes a navigable canal network connected to the River Thames. To date, the site has delivered 158 homes and supported 58 apprenticeships in a range of trades including electrical works, carpentry and plumbing.
