David Phillips, 44, Head of Industry and Investor Relations at Aker Solutions (Norwegian Oil Contractor) has purchased and moved into an apartment in St James' development Riverlight. Riverlight is designed by iconic architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and is comprised of six contemporary pavilions that range from 12 to 20 storeys with exterior glass walled elevators. Mr Phillips has moved into the first of these pavilions, Riverlight One, which also houses the residents' swimming pool, spa, fitness suite, library, lounge and café.
"My wife and I bought an apartment at Riverlight by St James in Nine Elms as a pied à terre during the week and as a weekend city base. Our main home is in Essex so Riverlight's location on the South Bank is convenient when travelling to work in Chiswick and for the attractions of Central London. I think Nine Elms will be unrecognisable in a few years' time and we see Vauxhall specifically as being increasingly well served by public transport, retailers and restaurants. In the longer term, there is also the possibility of a new footbridge across the river, so improved access to the North Bank and Chelsea/Pimlico/Westminster looks possible. Riverlight is the first development to be ready for residents in the area and we saw it as a great opportunity to invest early in the middle of a major re-investment trend in Nine Elms.
"The benefits from the wider development of the Nine Elms area are some of the main long term attractions we see of owning a flat in this part of London. This includes the Northern Line extension, the redevelopment of the New Covent Garden Market, and the planned new bridge over the Thames that will give Riverlight and the surrounding area a quick link to the North bank and all the attractions of Chelsea and Pimlico - doubtless some estate agents will be referring to this area as 'Lower Chelsea' before too long!"
