Berkeley Homes has created a brand new street at its landmark development, One Tower Bridge, on the South Bank. The official opening of Duchess Walk will take place on Tuesday 1st December, and will be marked by festive celebrations around a 9ft tall Christmas tree at the top of the street by the River Thames.
Duchess Walk is a 170 metre long pedestrianised street which connects Queen Elizabeth Street to the River Thames, and is integral to creating a new cultural riverside destination at One Tower Bridge.
Complemented by a variety of retail units, Duchess Walk provides direct access to Tower Bridge Road and The Queen's Walk; a popular waterside trail that runs parallel with the Thames up to London Bridge. The street will also provide access to the new 900-seat flagship theatre which will be home to The London Theatre Company, a new production company by Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr.
Forming part of the thoughtfully designed public realm at the development, Berkeley Homes has worked with Squire and Partners to design a street which not only provides an attractive thoroughfare, but also offers a new dramatic sightline of the iconic Tower Bridge. The architectural vision for the street is based on the atmospheric passageways which are a defining feature of neighbouring Shad Thames, with residential apartments located above a variety of commercial units that will be filled with shops, cafes and restaurants.
Demonstrating Berkeley Homes' commitment to creating thriving mixed-use communities, Duchess Walk reintroduces life back into a site which had once been a hub of activity. The location played an important role in the area's industrial activity since the 15th century and consisted of a network of roads and passageways enabling the transportation of goods from the river. Since the 1970s, the site was used as a coach park.
Berkeley Homes' development at One Tower Bridge comprises 376 private apartments ranging from one, two, three bedroom apartments, across eight buildings designed by Squire and Partners. The development will provide high quality new homes which complement the surrounding historical and riverside setting and Potters Field Park. The buildings have been positioned to maximise views across the scheme and River Thames and will incorporate new landscaped public piazzas, pedestrian streets and residents' gardens.
The development is scheduled for final completions in 2017. Prices start from £1,475,000 for a onebedroom apartment. For further information please visit the website www.onetowerbridge.co.ukor to book an appointment at the marketing suite please call 020 7871 0011 .
