Cambridge has been named best performing housing market in the UK for Q1 2013, according to Nationwide City Level Data. The announcement comes as a result of increased investment into local infrastructure and a series of large global technology companies creating global headquarters in the city, generating greater demand for the city's burgeoning housing stock.
Cambridge is fast becoming the super tech and business hub of the UK, or "the new Silicone Valley", with Cambridge's business park set to become home to some of the largest tech companies in the UK. Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has announced it will build a new UK corporate headquarters and global development centre in Cambridge, said to be worth around £330m. The site will directly employ around 2,000 people and highlights Cambridge's growing role in international bioscience research.
In addition, the development of a second train station next to the business park will offer commuters' greater access between the city and the park, as well as greater access to regional Cambridgeshire, the Midlands and London. It will also help to cut down traffic within central Cambridge and surrounding residential areas.
Cambridge's success in infrastructure and technology is currently reflected by the city's housing market. As a result of the increased public and private investment, better facilities, more jobs and a greater demand for housing in the city, home owners are reaping the benefits as competition between buyers drove up house prices nine per cent.
Tina Dedman, Sales and Marketing Director for Berkeley Homes, comments: "High specification homes are in great demand in central Cambridge. The business park is bringing new jobs and residents to the city, meaning a greater, newer and more varied housing stock is required.
"We have noticed a surge of interest in our Cambridge Riverside development, which offers a very rare chance for people to own a modern home in the very centre of this exciting, vibrant and prosperous city. The contemporary selection of apartments and penthouses, each with a private terrace and balcony, has been so popular that the development is now over 95% sold! The last phase of Cambridge Riverside is going to launch soon - a luxurious collection of ten 4 and 5 bedroom homes - so register your interest now."
The lively River Cam provides a breathtaking backdrop to Cambridge Riverside which residents can enjoy, with easy access to the river and to nearby Midsummer Common from the development. The city centre offers a great selection of shops, boutiques, restaurants, cafés and bars providing numerous places to enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere of this great city.
As well as enjoying riverside life, all buyers can take advantage of Cambridge Riverside's concierge service and the state-of-the-art residents' gym which offers residents the chance to exercise seven days a week.
The development has excellent rail connections both regionally to Newmarket and Stansted Airport and direct into London via both King's Cross and Liverpool Street stations in just under an hour. By road, the M11 is only a short drive away which gives direct access to the M25 in the South and leads via the A14 to the A1 (M) in the North.
