St George, one of London's leading developers, welcomed John Dickens Great Grandson of the builder's merchant whom the Dickens Yard scheme in Ealing is named after, to tour the development which used to form part of his great grandfathers builders yard.
Mr Dickens commented: "Ealing was known as Queen of the suburbs when I was growing up and I am delighted that the family name will be at the forefront of the regeneration of the area. After my great grandfather, Jumbo Dickens started the company in 1800, the business was passed down the generations until 1980. Now that I have two daughters the name has clearly run its course, it is therefore a fitting tribute to the family and former employees who were instrumental in the company's success."
This new mixed-use scheme in Ealing, includes 698 new apartments and penthouses set around a European-style public piazza with landscaped gardens. There will also be over 100,000 sqft of prime retail space which was once home to the family's construction business.
Ian Dobie, Managing Director of St George West London commented, "We are delighted John took the opportunity to view the progress that St George has already delivered in regenerating Dickens Yard. St George has remained committed to building a development that complements the outstanding architectural heritage of the area."
Situated in the very heart of Ealing town centre, and surrounded by historic landmark buildings, Dickens Yard is a unique development that blends heritage with sophistication to create an exciting new urban quarter.
698 luxury apartments and penthouses will provide stunning homes ideally located both for Ealing and for travel into Central London. Each home will look out across private gardens, or landscaped pedestrian boulevards, which will link three public piazzas playing host to lively markets, street theatre and jazz events and lined with cafés and boutique shops, to create a bustling new focus.
Dickens Yard will ensure that the already thriving cultural life in Ealing will get a welcome boost. Dickens Yard is located just a short walk from Ealing Broadway Station which provides Tube (district and central) and rail services to Central London. Paddington station is just nine minutes away and Heathrow Airport 24 minutes by train. Crossrail is also coming in 2018 which will see direct train services from Ealing into the West End, City and Docklands. Important road links such as the M4 and North Circular are also nearby providing easy access both in and out of London.
The specifications at Dickens Yard are exceptional. From the hotel style entrance foyer, to the apartments where interiors will be elegant and spacious. Extensive facilities include 24 hour concierge, private underground parking* and a residents only fitness suite.
