An art competition for local children to in honour of the painting of Kew Bridge by revered artist JMW Turner, was held by developer St George and displayed at Kew Bridge, their latest development located on the river Thames adjacent to the historic Grade II listed bridge in West London.
An art competition for local children to in honour of the painting of Kew Bridge by revered artist JMW Turner, was held by developer St George and displayed at Kew Bridge, their latest development located on the river Thames adjacent to the historic Grade II listed bridge in West London.
The competition was run in conjunction with Green Dragon School and open to all children living within the Borough of Hounslow aged 11 and under. All entries focused on the Kew Bridge landscape and were submitted to a panel of judges including The Worshipful The Mayor of Hounslow Councillor Colin Ellar, Robert Cumber of Hounslow Chronicle and Ian Dobie, Managing Director of St George West London..
The English landscape painter and water colourist, Joseph Mallord William Turner was born in 1775 and died in 1851. Although originally born in Covent Garden, Turner moved to Ferry House, Isleworth and spent many years painting landscapes the region. Turner painted the famous watercolour of Kew Bridge in 1805 which features Brentford in the foreground and Strand-on-Green seen through the arches of the bridge. The piece was accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest in 1856.
First prize was won by [Name to be inserted] and The Worshipful The Mayor of Hounslow Councillor Colin Ellar commented [quote to be inserted]. Ian Dobie, Managing Director of St George West London also commented, "I am thrilled by the high quality of paintings we received and the judging was an extremely difficult task. I would like to thank all of the children who took part in the competition and we look forward to displaying the winning entry at our Kew Bridge development."
