After visiting Camberwell Grove, judges were impressed by the high level of technical competency demonstrated by St George, as well as its ability to use innovative methods of design and construction and the consistent approach of creating work of the highest possible standard. The award organisers travelled to Camberwell Grove on November 11th to present the award to Denis Moran, St George's Senior Site Manager.
Situated in one of London's most attractive conservation areas, St George's Camberwell Grove scheme involves the sensitive restoration of the former Mary Datchelor School buildings, as well as a selection of new Georgian-style two, three and four bedroom townhouses.
The result is a highly specified collection of 90 highly desirable homes, many of which have now been sold. The unique apartments situated in the former school building feature custom designed kitchens with stone or composite worktops, modern bathrooms and sophisticated living areas benefitting from specialist lighting, underfloor heating and pre-wiring for an audio sound system.
Owners of the elegant two, three and four bedroom townhouses enjoy the same high specification but with the added benefit of gas fires, integrated coffee machines and wine coolers. Many of the townhouses also feature walled courtyard gardens, conservatories and private individual garage spaces below the properties.
Mark Griffiths, Managing Director of St George South London, commented: "From the very start, our plan for Camberwell Grove was to retain the distinctive character of the original school buildings and respect the conservation area in which it stands. The whole team has worked hard to ensure that this development blends in and enhances the street and we are delighted to have this recognised by this award."
Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards commented: "Camberwell Grove was chosen for this award because it is a great example of how older buildings at the centre of a community can be converted into comfortable and appealing homes and at the same time enhance the existing street scene."
