The Berkeley Group has been voted Britain's Most Admired Company in the latest annual survey conducted by Management Today. This is the first time a housebuilder, developer or construction firm has ever won this accolade.
The Berkeley Group currently builds 20% of all new homes in London. Its commercial performance has been consistently strong throughout the downturn, and has today announced a 64% increase in pre-tax profits in its interim results.
It is also ranked as the most sustainable housebuilder in England, coming top in the NextGeneration benchmark for the last six years.
"Our success is based on a few core values: a real passion for the quality of places we build, quick decisions based on common sense, and financial independence. Those are the things that help us succeed. It's about people, relationships and your balance sheet," says Tony Pidgley, Chairman of the Berkeley Group.
"We are very honoured to receive this award. I would like to think it is also recognition of the importance of good housing. Homebuilding is an engine of the economy and essential to the wellbeing of society. We all need to get behind the need for more good quality homes in well designed places that everyone is proud of."
