Imperial College London Invests £150M in WestTech Corridor to Boost West London Innovation
As the Government looks to drive growth through the development and expansion of the Oxford-Cambridge Arc Corridor, Imperial College London is focusing its attention on the WestTech Corridor.
The new corridor is set to act as a vehicle for investment, inclusive economic growth and job creation at a local, regional and national level, providing flexible and affordable workspace to allow innovators and makers to stay and grow in west London.
The WestTech Corridor will be anchored by Imperial’s major science and innovation locations, which includes South Kensington-Albertopolis, Paddington Life Sciences Cluster, White City Innovation District, and Old Oak and Park Royal, situated nearby to the Grand Union development being delivered by St George.
As part of its ambition to create a world-leading hub for innovation, entrepreneurship and technological advancement, Imperial College London has invested £150 million to purchase and repurpose the 9.6-acre site known as Victoria Industrial Estate in Old Oak and the future Old Oak Common Station hub.
These locations will provide companies within innovative fields such as CleanTech, BioTech and MedTech with space for prototyping, pilot manufacturing and advanced manufacturing.
Councillor Peter Mason, the leader of Ealing Council, expects this to be a ‘major game changer for Ealing’, helping to secure growth in a high tech, emerging economy and build on the growing role life sciences plays in west London.
A Growing Community at SEGRO V-Park Grand Union
This expansion comes as SEGRO, the leading owner and developer of industrial and warehouse space, and St George welcome Panmedica Medical Distribution to SEGRO V-Park Grand Union in Wembley.
SEGRO V-Park Grand Union is an industrial warehousing scheme, designed to maximise space where land is constrained, and has been delivered as part of the vibrant, mixed-use Grand Union neighbourhood.
Occupying 1,700 sq ft and on floor five of the six-storey industrial development, Panmedica Medical Distribution will be the first company from the life sciences sector at the groundbreaking urban logistics park, which completed in April 2024.
Panmedica is the second customer to establish operations onsite since completion, joining an automation and robotics company.
Each of these companies will be able to benefit from the exciting new community forming at Grand Union, which includes an Anytime Fitness gym, Co-op, Peapods nursery, and Crepes+Coffee café, which operates from the development’s narrowboat PAVO by the canalside piazza. It is also home to a state-of-the-art community hub, which companies can hire for events.
