London has always been a hive of activity, and every year brings new and exciting additions to the abundance of experiences to be had in the English capital. Events, festivals, sports tournaments, cultural celebrations - no matter what you're looking for, you can be sure that London has something to tempt your palate.
In this blog, we're going to dive into the capital's event calendar to take a look at some of the biggest and most intriguing fixtures happening across London in 2020.
UEFA Euro 2020 Tournament
Football fans across the UK, and indeed across Europe, are gearing up for a fantastic Euro tournament in June and July 2020. For the first time in its history and to celebrate the tournament's 60th anniversary, the matches will be played in 12 countries across the continent, and that includes London. The iconic arches of Wembley Stadium will host seven games including the final itself, with some of the greatest footballers in the modern game playing on Wembley grass. The tournament is set to be an exuberant celebration of the sport and with some of its most important games being played in London, this is a football event that's not to be missed.
British Summer Time Festival
When the summer finally comes to Britain and we get the sun for a precious few months, music lovers across the country head out in their droves to the hallowed grounds of the myriad of UK festivals. With London being the urban juggernaut that it is, space for big festivals is limited, but the best on offer is the marvellous British Summer Time Festival which takes place every July in the idyllic surroundings of Hyde Park. The line ups since the festival began have been superb, with artists from a variety of genres taking to the stages, including Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, The Killers, Neil Young, The Rolling Stones, Michael Bublé and Bruno Mars.
Greenwich+Docklands International Festival
Bringing diverse communities together in the unforgettable surroundings of Greenwich and its docklands, the Greenwich+Docklands International Festival is an unmissable event in London's calendar. Packed with artistic installations, dazzling lightshows, fantastic dance performances and intricately designed carnivals, this free outdoor arts festival runs from the 19th of June to the 4th of July. Last year's features included a robotic puppet parade, a streamer celebration and a big band perched in the swaying platform of an enormous chandelier. For a slice of magic in one of London's prettiest areas, the Greenwich+Docklands International Festival is well worth a visit.
London Wellbeing Festival
For something a little bit different and a whole lot more relaxing, the London Wellbeing Festival takes place in the Olympia in West Kensington in May. This three-day event celebrates everything that slows down the hectic pace of everyday life, combining yoga, healthy eating, meditation and much more in a recognition of how these practices can help our daily lives. Those in search of spiritual fulfilment and deeper understanding will find a lot to enjoy in the diverse stalls and at the many talks which deal with veganism, mental health, massage techniques, yoga routines and general positivity.
