Top Five Outdoor Cinemas to Visit This Summer

London's pop-up cinema scene provides some unique entertainment this summer, check out our favourite events in this blog post.

London is one of the most beautiful cities in the world with stunning architecture and a constant buzz of event activity held all year round. When it comes to summer months, there is now a wave of outdoor cinema pop-ups to enjoy, hosted in stunning venues across the city.
With so many outdoor cinemas and films to choose from, it's easy to miss the perfect one for you, take a look at our guide below to the five best outdoor cinemas to visit in London.

Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House - 9 - 22nd August

The annual festival returns this August with a stellar line-up of modern greats, classics and blockbusters, all shown inside the famous courtyard of the neoclassical Somerset house. Screening 1-2 films each night, boasting 'London's largest outdoor screen', this is the capital's original and ultimate outdoor film destination, hosting up to 2,000 guests every night.

Doors open at 6:30pm which gives you the chance to experience the terrace bar and restaurant overlooking the River Thames. There is also a selection of pop-up Grey Goose bars serving drinks and cocktails, as well as DJ sets inspired by upcoming films. A trip to the cinema would not be complete without snacks, and Somerset House gives visitors the option of pre-ordering picnic hampers made by Bryn Williams. Food and drinks can also be taken into the screening.

Film screenings this month include: Inception, Wizard of Oz, Sleeping Beauty and Call Me By Your Name, to name a few. Films start at approximately 9:00pm and ticket prices start from £17 plus booking fee.

Movies on the River with City Cruises - 13th June - 8th September

Movies on the River returns this year, offering guests the unique experience of watching new and classic films during a sunset cruise along the River Thames, with unforgettable views of London's most famous landmarks.

The line-up will not disappoint, with film screenings this month including; Moulin Rouge, Love Actually, The Greatest Showman, Dirty Dancing, La La Land and Top Gun. Boarding for the boat is located by Tower of London near to our own One Tower Bridge development. Each cruise starts at 7:30pm and tickets can be bought from £29. Food and drink is available for guests to buy on-board.

Rooftop Film Club - Roof East, Queen of Hoxton & Bussey Building - until 31st August

With three unique rooftop venues across London, the Rooftop Film Club offers fantastic views of London and great film choices. Venues include Roof East in Stratford, the Bussey Building in Peckham and the Queen of Hoxton in Shoreditch. Sit back and relax in one of the venues comfy deckchairs and enjoy the movies on offer with wireless headphones - which provide an uninterrupted viewing.

Films this month to enjoy include; The Greatest Showman, Aladdin, Grease, Notting Hill and The Incredibles 2 - with screenings starting at around 8pm.

Luna Cinema at various locations - until 30th August

The Luna Cinema claims to be the UK's number one open air cinema, with numerous venues across the country. As well as venues in locations such as Kent and Oxfordshire, there are also plenty of screening destinations for Londoners to enjoy, including; Alexandra Palace, Battersea Park, Chiswick House, Wimbledon Park and Victoria Tower Gardens. A stone's throw away from some of our developments, such as Wimbledon Hill Park and Battersea Reach.

The Luna Cinema is running until the 30th of August, with films starting around 8pm and tickets from £17.50. Visitors can pre-order drinks to collect from the Luna bar, including Estrella Damm beers, Casillero Del Diablo wine and Gordon's gin & tonic.

Screenings in London locations include Moulin Rouge, Darkest Hour, The Greatest Showman, I, Tonya and Dunkirk.

Pop Up Screens at various locations - 3rd August - 23rd September

With screenings in all four corners of the city, Pop Up Screens are hosting an outdoor cinema experience over the summer with large inflatable screens and a relaxed atmosphere. Locations include; Greenwich Peninsula, Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith, Coram's Fields in Russell Square and others. Food here is being served by the Seaside Pizza Co. and the Boater's Inn, while drinks are provided by the range of pop-up bars onsite.

Films throughout August include; Beauty and the Beast, Suffragette, The Goonies, Thor: Ragnarok, Baby Driver, The Greatest Showman and La La Land. The events run from August to September, with films starting around 8pm and tickets are £12.50.
