A Round-Up of Halloween Activities for 2020
Spooky season is upon us once again and there are still plenty of ways to enjoy Halloween this year despite the restrictions currently in place. We have assembled a selection to give you some inspiration that can help you plan your own Halloween activities and create your own special evening.
Scary cinema screenings in London
Cinemas are back with full social distancing measures in place, so why not get dressed up and catch some classic Halloween movies on the big screen. Both independent cinemas like the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square and big names like the Odeon and Vue are showing a range of Halloween favourites, from Hocus Pocus and Frankenweenie for little monsters to Silence of the Lambs for scaring older audiences. This is perfect for a night out with family on Halloween or with a partner if you fancy a more cinematic experience for capturing the thrills and chills that come with Halloween.
If you'd prefer something a bit more private but still gives you access to the big screen, you can also catch classic Halloween films at The Drive-In over in Edmonton and the Drive-In Cinema Club at Alexandra Palace. Check out your local cinema's guidance for safety information related to coronavirus before planning your trip.
Beware of scarecrows at London Dungeon
The London Dungeon is a Halloween staple, providing frights and sights all-year round but pulling out all the stops around October. This year, they've decided to do something a little different with the Corridor of Misdemeanours. This Halloween exhibition looks at the dark history of scarecrows and how they came to be what they are today. The Dungeons have warned that not every scarecrow is what it might seem at first glance, so you can expect some serious scares along the way. Prebooking is essential, as the London Dungeon sells out their events quickly every year, so if this seems like your style of spooky then be sure to pick up tickets ASAP.
Haunting paintings
Throughout history, there have been artists who have brought terrifying imagery and emotions to their canvases. You can join Pop Up Painting to try your hand at recreating one of the most iconic, harrowing images - The Scream - taking place in The Horniman at Hays, which also comes with a glass of bubbly.
Venture out on a ghost walk around London
If you fancy getting a different perspective on a tour around London, Halloween is the perfect atmosphere for a ghost walk around the so-called haunted locations in the city. From following in the footsteps of the notorious Jack the Ripper to getting closer to London's shadowy past, there's a wide range of tours available to suit where you want to spend the day in the city and the level of scares you might like. There's even a Ghosts, Ghouls and Gallows tour which involves a boat ride along the Thames to sail past some of the darker sights London has to offer, as well as a virtual ghost walk for both the Jack the Ripper tour and city ghost tour available if you'd prefer to be spooked from the comfort of your own sofa.
While the events for Halloween we've listed are some of the more classic events, you'll find hundreds more which have been adapted to follow social distancing and other measures to ensure you're as safe as possible while being entertained.
