Meet the Farmstead Residents

Having lived in Kent for many years, retiree Charlotte (75), decided it was the right time to downsize from her large house in Wadhurst to a smaller, more manageable property at Farmstead at Tannersbrook, in nearby Cranbrook.

With her daughter living in Benenden, Charlotte was keen to move closer to her family, and her property search soon led her to Berkeley’s traditionally-inspired homes.

Charlotte says: “I had originally looked in a few areas such as Benenden, where my daughter lives, wanting a manageable sized house with a nice garden. My daughter then came across Farmstead at Tannersbrook online and we both fell in love with the houses, which are true to the surrounding Kentish architecture yet also offer the modern low maintenance living which I was craving.”

Charlotte purchased a three-bedroom house with a south-facing garden and is now happily moved into her new home and enjoying getting to know her new neighbours.

As one of the latest new addresses in the county, Farmstead at Tannersbrook’s range of homes and charming rural setting has proven popular with empty nesters drawn to the opportunity to move to a more manageable, low maintenance and cost-effective home without having to forgo the countryside location, private garden or traditional architecture they are accustomed to.

Charlotte says: “I have to say, living in a modern house has made such a difference especially as I am used to living in a period property – everything just works! I love the modern and up-to-date finishes; the house is so much easier to clean yet I still have lots of space to have friends and family over for tea. One of the huge selling points for me was how much sun my new home gets. It’s perfectly positioned so that the kitchen and living area receives the sun in the morning and then the garden is a suntrap all afternoon and evening – it couldn’t be better.”

She adds: “I am also an avid gardener but was struggling to maintain my previous garden, which was becoming too much for me. Here, I have the perfect size – it’s super manageable but also big enough that I can still enjoy my passion.”

A boutique development, Farmstead at Tannersbrook is a gated collection of just 28 private three- and four- bedroom homes, alongside a five-bedroom farmhouse, all set within a rich mature landscape of green spaces and ponds.

Charlotte says: “Another selling point for me was the size of the development, I am used to village living but didn’t want to feel over-crowded which can often be the case in new-build developments. Here at Farmstead at Tannersbrook, the homes have been carefully spread out so that you feel part of a community but also enjoy your own privacy. We are also on the edge of lots of surrounding fields, and I particularly enjoy the woodland at the back where I quite often enjoy a morning or evening stroll.”

She adds: “I love having a range of scenic countryside walks on the doorstep and it’s clear there has been careful consideration to include green space within the development. It’s a beautiful place to live and everyone has been very friendly, there’s a great sense of community developing here.”

Farmstead at Tannersbrook is conveniently situated a short walk away from Cranbrook, a medieval village that benefits from a plethora of everyday amenities. Cranbrook has over 60 shops, including an artisanal farm shop selling local produce, a family-owned butchers and a post office – making it the perfect place for everyday essentials.

“Having Cranbrook just down the road is so convenient. I still have access to everything I need which was important and something I had become accustomed to living in Wadhurst. Cranbrook is absolutely charming, and I have already registered with the local doctor and am looking at joining the village U3A.”

When asked about the customer experience, Charlotte had nothing but praise for the Berkeley team.

“All the staff at Berkeley were so attentive. From the moment I viewed the property to today, everyone has been excellent, and I cannot praise them enough – I would absolutely recommend Farmstead at Tannersbrook to family and friends and am already on the case.”
