Streetcar
At St James, one of our key priorities is to reduce the amount of carbon associated with our developments. Berkeley Group already leads the industry in encouraging ecologically sustainable build techniques and bringing new technologies and approaches to our construction projects to minimise their impact on the surrounding areas, now and in the future.
Every Streetcar takes an average of 20 privately owned cars off the roads of the UK (TFL study 2007), because members often sell (or do not replace) a car when they join. This means Streetcar has already taken over 25,000 cars off the streets.
Streetcar is a service that benefits the whole community. We have found that members choose to drive a car 68% less after joining Streetcar than before (Streetcar member survey 2007), as they both make better use of public transport and think much harder about their transport options according to what they need to achieve and the cost associated with that decision.
This behaviour change, combined with the fact that the vehicles are new and fuel efficient, means that Streetcar has saved 100,000 tonnes of CO2 to date, and is aiming to prevent the emission of around 50,000 tonnes of CO2 over the next two years. Additionally we offset the lower CO2 emissions created by us, making Streetcar carbon neutral.
Streetcar at The Hamptons
Whether you have a car or not, it is useful to know that there is one around the corner for when you need it. Which is why St James and Streetcar are working together to provide residents with simple, 24/7 access to cars when they need them. There are two Streetcars parked at The Hamptons, which can be booked by the hour, day, week or month.
You can drive a Streetcar from as little as £4.95 per hour, including 30 miles of free fuel per day, unlimited free fuel on longer trips, and fully comprehensive insurance. Once you have joined online at streetcar.com/join (a membership fee applies), you can book online, unlock the car with a smartcard or mobile phone, and drive away. When you're done, just bring it back.
