Transport
As a result of major regeneration projects in the heart of Portsmouth, Gunwharf Quays has excellent public transport links, as well as 1450 underground car parking spaces.
It is encouraging that around half of all visitors arrive by means other than car (ie foot/taxi/public transport). The development has excellent transportation networks including:
- Good links to existing major motorway networks
- Close to major transport routes
Close proximity to public transport:
- Portsmouth Harbour Station
- Next to 3 International Ferry Terminals - Gosport Ferry and Isle of Wight, Continental Ferry and Isle of Wight Ferry
- The Hard Coach & Bus Interchange
- Proposed South Hampshire Rapid Transport Scheme will terminate at Gunwharf Quays
The development provides a pedestrian walkway to the main bus and coach terminus and to a taxi rank. In addition there is a bicycle park on site and provision in the new phase for enhanced cycle storage. At the outset it was acknowledged that the development would have an impact on the local community. As a result of a traffic impact assessment several road junctions were improved and funding was also given to improve several well-known accident hot-spots.
