What to expect this month at London Design Festival 2018


This September marks the 16th edition of London's Design Festival, a seven-day celebration of the capital's design and creativity. The annual event brings together some of the most renowned designers from around the globe and some of the best new talent. From 15-23rd of September, expect to see an array of installations across 11 districts around London, including multiple new design districts, such as; West Kensington, Regent Street and Fitzrovia.

Last year, a record-breaking 450,000 visitors from 75 countries attended the event, which helps to promote London as the design capital of the world. The festival caters for a range of design tastes, this year the festival themes range from sustainability to emerging talent and future cities.

Events to look out for:

West Kensington Design District

  • 100% Design - Located in the heart of the newly formed West Kensington Design District, the 100% Design show will feature striking installations which bring together over 400 international brands from Riko by Starck to Tesla.  This year will also highlight the cutting-edge work of new designers. Led by design journalist Max Fraser, a small jury will select 20 projects focused on the future of city-living created by designers with less than 5 years industry experience. This event takes place from 19th-22nd September.

Broadgate

  • Alphabet - Throughout the duration of the festival, Broadgate will host a unique Landmark Project designed by Kellenberger-White, consisting of a series of 26 colourful alphabet chairs. Each bespoke chair is a different colour, specifically chosen by a specialist paint manufacturer. This installation encourages visitors to explore and interact with the alphabet chairs that form the exhibition.

Mayfair Design District

  • B solitaire - Launching their new b solitaire system, bulthaup Mayfair are inviting architects and interior designers to a unique buffet-style breakfast to showcase their new range of tables, benches and freestanding elements, all of which are designed to combine the kitchen and living space transition. This event will be held on the morning of September 21st at the Mayfair showroom on Wigmore Street.

Victoria

  • Victoria: Then & Now - On September 19th at 4.30-5.30pm Lansec are showcasing their Then & Now photography gallery which highlights the transformation of Victoria over the past 50 years. Starting from the foyer of 80 Victoria Street and ending in Nova North (with a complimentary drink), visitors will have the opportunity to marvel at the fantastic artwork housed in multiple office receptions on-route. Pre-booking is essential for this event and tickets can be purchased online.
