Berkeley, Undergraduates, Application Process

Application Process

Apply online between 4 December 2017 and 9 March 2018
Complete the online application form. We recommend that you prepare your responses in advance in a word processing programme in order to check spelling and word counts. We receive many applications for the sandwich year placements and the overall quality is very high. We recommend that you research the Berkeley Group and our developments. The most successful candidates put time into answering the questions on the application form and demonstrate a genuine interest in the company.
Applications made by email or post will not be accepted.
Complete a telephone interview
Successful applicants will be contacted to arrange a telephone interview. Telephone interviews will be held from January - March 2018. They will be led by the Graduate Recruitment Team and will be strength-based and cover a variety of areas.

Attend a final interview
Candidates who impress during their telephone interview will attend a final interview and deliver a presentation. The interviews will take place between March - April 2018 and will be attended by directors from the divisions. You will be required to deliver a 10 minute presentation as part of the interview process.
If successful you will be offered a position
Successful applicants will receive a job offer within 48 hours of attending the final interview.
Undergraduates begin work
You must be able to start in a full time capacity, so please do not apply this year if you are not able to complete a placement year from September 2018.

We look for undergraduates that have skills and experience that are relevant to the placement that you wish to apply for. Studying a relevant degree puts you in a strong position but is not essential. If you are not studying towards a relevant degree, we would expect you to demonstrate through your CV and application that you have picked up knowledge and skills that you could apply to the role. For instance, you may have relevant work experience, or completed useful courses in addition to your degree. Certain placements are less reliant on a property-related degree, however we would expect applicants for these roles to be able to demonstrate some knowledge and passion for the property industry.

We seek to recruit the most talented undergraduates at the very beginning of their careers, to convert academic learning into practical development skills.

We look for students who:

  • Who are studying towards a technical, commercial or construction related degree.
  • Demonstrate talent, drive and enthusiasm
  • Are confident, articulate, dynamic and commercially aware
  • Have a true passion for the industry
  • Can quickly develop practical skills and knowledge

Complete the online application form. The application process closes on 9 March 2018; however, if we receive enough applications we may close the process early.

Successful applicants will be invited for a telephone interview. If successful, you will be invited to a face-to-face interview with directors and asked to give a 10 minute presentation in May 2018.

Offers will be made to successful candidates within 48 hours of final interviews. Your placement year will commence in September 2018.

Unfortunately you will not be able to make changes to your application form once it has been submitted. We would strongly advise that you prepare your response in advance in a word processing programme in order to check spelling and word counts. If you wish to amend any personal details then please contact:

The Berkeley Group is an equal opportunities employer. Unfortunately we are unable to sponsor visa applications. If you require a visa to work in the UK you must obtain this independently and provide evidence of this visa before the start of the programme.

You will be based in one of our offices or construction sites in London, Birmingham and the South of England. You should be prepared to move between offices and sites based upon business needs. Every effort will be made to ensure that you are placed in the most practical region for you.

On successful completion of their placement year, undergraduates may be offered a place on our Graduate Scheme for September 2020. We encourage undergraduates to view sandwich placements as a 12 month interview, providing the platform to impress and reaffirm their passion and commitment in their chosen area.

Unfortunately no sponsorship is available following on from sandwich placements, although a place may be offered on our Graduate Scheme for 2020 to high performers.

We offer Summer Internships through the Reading Real Estate Foundation. Please click here  for more information on the programme and application process.

Your application will be acknowledged and we will provide updates at each stage of the interview process. You can request feedback from the graduate recruitment team if you have attended an assessment day. However, due to the high volume of applications it will not be possible to provide feedback at earlier stages.

The scheme closes on 9 March 2018; however, if we receive the required number of applications before this date we may close applications early.

Berkeley will be attending the following events on campus, come down and meet former alumni and our current graduates and recruitment team and let us answer any questions you may have.
