Job Purpose: Berkeley Homes (East Thames) are looking for an individual with community engagement experience to join our Social Value team and support the community development strategy for our large regeneration projects of Kidbrooke Village, Royal Arsenal and Plumstead West Thamesmead in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. This individual will play a key role in developing the communities within these areas and ensure that the right people, structures and organisations are in place and involved to ensure long-term social sustainability. Working with and between key public, private and voluntary partners, the post will bring about lasting social, economic and environmental improvements for the benefit of all in the very diverse communities of Kidbrooke Village and Royal Arsenal.


Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Community Engagement & Development

  • Initiate, develop and support delivery of practical projects to respond to environmental, economic and community needs of the Kidbrooke Village and Royal Arsenal regeneration schemes.
  • Support the execution of the Community Plans for each site and support the development of community forums, led by residents with the aim to enhance their own communities.
  • Build strong and creative relationships with residents, community groups, local projects, and local businesses in order to progress with our community development strategies.
  • Support in community consultations and participation in the regeneration areas and shape their agenda to enable local people and organisations to develop their ideas and take them forward;
  • Support and promote the development and implementation of practical projects that promote community cohesion, health and wellbeing, environmental sustainability, training and employment, social mobility and
  • Encourage the development of new ideas and initiatives, and enable them to be turned into practical action where appropriate;
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with key public, voluntary and community agencies.
  • Develop the capacity of residents to initiate and participate in local projects;
  • Continually consulting and informing local residents of community project initiatives, encouraging resident involvement in projects where appropriate

Communitcations

  • Work with the Head of Social Value to deliver key messages of Berkeley's community and placemaking projects to both internal and external audiences.
  • Work with the production teams to report on the "considerate builders" programmes for each site.
  • Support the management of BHET's social media platforms, and identify new platforms to engage residents, potential customers and other key stakeholders.
  • Work alongside the content creator in the creation of an external newsletter for residents and an internal newsletter for staff.
  • Regularly review all events notices in the noticeboards, concierge desks and sales boards across the developments

School, Training and Apprenticeship engagement 

  • Working alongside the workplace coordinator, the role will be promoting the construction industry as a whole to local primary schools and secondary schools. This could include contacting schools to ask to attend assemblies, careers talks, jobs, apprenticeship fairs etc.
  • Maintaining relationships with careers advisors to ensure repeat visits to raise awareness on career paths for both trade and non-trade opportunities.
  • Circulate any handouts provided by Berkeley Group to interested students.

Technical Competencies:

  • Engaging with different communities (either through work or volunteering)
  • Working with economically deprived communities.
  • Working with and/or within multicultural communities.
  • Building and sustaining effective partnerships.
  • A degree in within Community Development studies OR at least a year practical experience within the voluntary or statutory sector.
