Job Purposed: The H&S Advisor will support and advise the Berkeley Homes St William London North management team and its operations (projects), assisting with all aspects of H&S. The H&S Advisor will work closely with the Senior Health & Safety Manager, Head of Health & Safety for Berkeley Group, Construction and Project Director(s) and project teams. The Advisor will be based primarily at our Poplar site to provide resident support while familiarising themselves with the business's policies and procedures. The role will progress to oversee multiple projects.  

Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 

  • Manage all aspects of H&S in relation project activities, act as the focal point and champion for H&S, working closely with the operating company management team and project management teams, including attending necessary operating company meetings as required
  • Promote campaigns and initiatives and ensure that appropriate focus is afforded to the wider aspirations set at a strategic level
  • Be familiar with relevant statutory and company policy requirements
  • Review the H&S Management System to ensure that the projects under their control are in possession of the necessary Health and Safety documentation in accordance with company policy and procedures
  • Ensure project teams are aware of all current legislation, codes of practice and other relevant literature
  • Set and review targets against project Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including the review of monthly Safety League tables
  • Ensure that the highest H&S standards are achieved and maintained
  • Initiate and maintain positive and pro-active measures to raise the level of H&S awareness and performance
  • Ensure that all accidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses are thoroughly reported, investigated and conclusions drawn as to how recurrence may be avoided
  • Set a personal example of safe behaviour
  • Assist with any other H&S matter as may be appropriate
  • Facilitate regular H&S reviews of project and contractor performance via auditing, inspections and forums
  • Review competence of contractors tendering for work with Berkeley

Technical Competencies:

  • The candidate will have at least 3 years' experience in construction (new build residential preferable)
  • The candidate will hold a NEBOSH in Construction qualification (or equivalent)
  • The candidate will preferably have worked for a developer where projects consist of multiple trade contractors
