Programme and Apply

We offer graduates the opportunity to be involved in roles at all stages of the Development Cycle. You will gain experience and exposure in all areas of the business completing placements of around a month in all the major departments before completing your two year programme in your home department.

Throughout the scheme, you can expect to gain real hands-on experience on our cutting edge projects while being supported and nurtured by market leading experts.

From day one all graduates are allocated a personal mentor who will help and guide you through the scheme and onto your professional development path. Participants of our programme will either qualify as chartered surveyors, by becoming accredited through RICS, or in a construction related discipline, by becoming accredited through CIOB.

Applications for the 2017 intake close on Friday 27 January 2017.

Our two year programme will equip you with the tools needed to have a successful career at Berkeley and will give you exposure to all areas of the business. From day one you will gain real hands-on experience on cutting edge projects while being supported and nurtured by market-leading experts.

The Berkeley programme includes:

  • Induction Weeks: The scheme starts with a two week induction giving graduates a good understanding of the Berkeley Group. You will be exposed to the different Divisions and departments allowing you to network with staff from all areas of the business. Scheme participants will visit a number of Berkeley developments, both inner and outer London, to understand the magnitude of the developments we build.
  • Professional Development: The Berkeley Group is committed to training and developing their people. Structured programmes are in place to enable staff to become accredited to relevant and recognised industry bodies, RICS and CIOB.
  • Training: You will be invited to attend a number of training events over the two years and will work on group projects as set by Directors
  • Mentors: Graduates are vital to the success of the business and you will be provided with a mentor from the business to support you throughout your career. In addition to your mentor you will be supported by Directors from your Division.
  • The Berkeley Foundation: You will spend two weeks volunteering with the Berkeley Foundation, gaining an introduction to the valuable work done by the charity and an understanding of the importance the Foundation plays in the business. In addition you will volunteer at events organised by the Foundation, events include: The Lord's Taverners Disability Cricket Championship Awards Evening, Rethinking Homelessness events and Street Elite festivals.
  • Sponsored Social Events: We organise social events for Graduates from across the business, enabling you to continue building your networks and remain in contact with fellow graduates.

Berkeley, Graduates, Application Process

Step 1 - Apply online
Complete the online application form between 19th September 2016 and 27th January 2017. We recommend that you prepare your responses in advance in a word processing programme in order to check spelling and word counts.

We receive many applications for the scheme and the overall quality is very high. We recommend you research the Berkeley Group and our developments. The most successful candidates put time into answering the questions on the application form and demonstrate a genuine interest in the company.

Applications made by email or post will not be accepted.

Step 2 - If successful, attend a phone interview
Telephone interviews will be held from October 2016 - February 2017. They will be led by the Graduate Recruitment Team and will be strength based and cover a variety of areas.

Step 3 - If successful, complete online tests
Successful applicants will be invited to complete psychometric testing. Tests may include personality, maths and verbal reasoning segments depending on the department that you apply for.

Step 4 - If successful, attend an assessment centre
If successful you will be invited to attend a half day assessment centre. The assessment centres will be attended by the directors from the divisions and you will undertake a number of tasks both in groups and individually to demonstrate your skills.

Step 5 - Successful graduates begin work
Graduates will join us in autumn 2017.

You must be able to start in a full time capacity by this time so please do not apply this year if you will not have completed your studies by that time or are planning on taking a gap year.

We look for graduates that have skills and experience that are relevant to the departments that you wish to apply for. A relevant degree puts you in a strong position but is not essential. If you do not have a relevant degree, we would expect you to demonstrate through your CV and application that you have picked up knowledge and skills that you could apply to the role. For instance, you may have relevant work experience, or completed useful courses in addition to your degree. Certain departments are less reliant on a property-related degree, however we would expect applicants for these roles to be able to demonstrate some knowledge and passion for the property industry.

You are able to submit multiple applications to apply to more than one department if you feel that your qualifications and experience are relevant to more than one area of the business. However, we would recommend that you carefully research the area you are interested in and select the department you feel is most suitable for you.

We seek to recruit the most talented graduates and undergraduates at the very beginning of their careers, to convert academic learning into practical development skills.

We look for people who:

  •  Have a recent upper second class degree in a relevant subject.
  •  Demonstrate talent, drive and enthusiasm
  •  Are confident, articulate, dynamic and commercially aware
  •  Have a true passion for the industry
  •  Can quickly develop practical skills and knowledge

No, anyone can apply for the Berkeley Graduate Scheme as long as they meet the minimum academic requirements. To be considered for a graduate role, candidates will typically have graduated within the past two years. If you have more experience than this you may wish to consider applying to specific experienced posts as advertised directly by our individual divisions.

Complete the online application form. The application process closes on 29th January 2016; however, if we receive enough applications we may close the process early.
Successful applicants will be invited for a telephone interview, with strong candidates completing online tests, October 2015- January 2016. Final stage interviews will consist of an assessment centre and final face to face interview, December 2015-March 2016.
Offers will be made to join the Berkeley Graduate Scheme, and the programme will start in September 2016 with a two week induction.

Unfortunately you will not be able to make changes to your application form once it has been submitted. We would strongly advise that you prepare your response in advance in a word processing programme in order to check spelling and word counts. If you wish to amend any personal details then please contact: graduatescheme@berkeleygroup.co.uk

The Berkeley Group is an equal opportunities employer. Unfortunately we are unable to sponsor visa applications. If you require a visa to work in the UK you must obtain this independently and provide evidence of this visa before the start of the programme.

You will be based in one of our offices or construction sites in London and the South East. You should be prepared to move between offices and sites based upon business needs. Every effort will be made to ensure that you are placed in the most practical region for you.

We will provide support to graduates who want to work towards their professional qualifications, if it supports your job role. Graduates will not start the process until they have completed their six month rotation

On completion of your rotations you will be placed in the cut and thrust of one of Berkeley's divisions, where straight away you will get the chance to work on one or more of our projects. As time progresses and you start to prove yourself, you will be given increasing levels of responsibility.

Your career progression at the Berkeley Group depends upon you and your career plans. Impressing with the work that you do and being able to demonstrate that you are an asset to the business will stand you in good stead.

To give you an idea of what you can achieve in a relatively short space of time, one graduate that we recruited in 2006 is now a managing director and several more that we have recruited since then are now in director and management positions.

Your application will be acknowledged and we will provide updates at each stage of the interview process. You can request feedback from the graduate recruitment team if you have attended an assessment day. However, due to the high volume of applications it will not be possible to provide feedback at earlier stages.

The scheme closes on 29th January 2016; however, if we receive the required number of applications before this date we may close applications early.

Berkeley will be attending the following events on campus, come down and meet former alumni and our current graduates and recruitment team and let us answer any questions you may have.
