Community spirit at The Hamptons appeals to families

25th July 2011

Like many others, when Lucy Bureau and husband Glen, an investment banker who works in the city, found out they were expecting their first child, they wanted to find a house with more space for their growing family. With house prices in Fulham sky high, they decided to expand their search and luckily came across New England style haven - The Hamptons in Worcester Park.

"We were looking for a while and found a few properties in Wimbledon that were in our price range, but after seeing an advert in the paper we went down to The Hamptons, just five miles away, and totally fell in love - it became an easy decision to make", explains the 37 year old.

"When we first looked round we knew nothing about the development or area but soon realised that all the amenities of Worcester Park were right on our doorstep – lots of parks, great schools and a high street and train station close by. My husband works in the city and can work very long hours so a fast train line with frequent trains, early in the morning and late at night was essential; The Hamptons is just 30 minutes from London which is perfect for him"

The Hamptons is ideal for families as all the features and buildings are designed to encourage community spirit. In addition to the community building, a focal point at The Hamptons, there is also a resident's gymnasium, established car club and 30 acres of parkland which includes children's play areas, outdoor tennis courts and its own amphitheatre which is a setting for outdoor concerts.

"The unique design of the houses and huge open spaces also really appealed to us, the communal hall and gym was just the icing on the cake. We could tell instantly The Hamptons had a great sense of community and it felt like a really safe environment to raise our children in"

"The shared driveways and front porches at The Hamptons really encourage you to get to know your neighbours – a rarity in London and there is always something going on that everyone from across the development can get involved with. The residents' association, which I help run, organises regular events and there is always a great turnout showing how dedicated people are to the community here – our Royal Wedding street party was a huge success." Residents also regularly organise neighbourly events such as tennis tournaments, quiz nights, barbeques and fireworks displays.

"We feel so lucky to have such a huge network of friends on our doorstep and our two girls, aged 3 and 7, love having big groups of children to play with. For those reasons, after seven years at The Hamptons, we still love living here and couldn't imagine moving anywhere else."

The Hamptons, which has green open spaces in abundance, is one of the only developments in the area that combines stylish living acres of parkland. It boasts water features, reed beds and lakes which are home to a variety of wildlife and only 30 minutes from central London via Waterloo.

In addition, to meet today's demand for greater energy efficiency, all homes come with devices for economical water use including water butts as well as a minimum of 75% low energy lighting, making them not only stylish, but also perfect for those who want a home with shining green credentials. Two cars are also available to hire from the Streetcar club.

Pricing & availability

Houses on the development start at £369,950 for a 3 bedroom house, 4 and 5 beds also available. Over 70% of the final phase now sold.
