Sustainability

The vision for Stanmore Place is as an exemplary sustainable community which will enrich the local area, developing into a desirable new neighbourhood with its own sense of place.

Located just off Honeypot Lane, and with excellent public transport connections, Stanmore Place is ideally placed for travelling into the capital for work as well as leisure.

The new community includes over 500 apartments, from one to three bedrooms. There will be various character areas throughout the residential zones formed through contemporary architecture, landscaped open spaces, a village green and water features.

A range of measures have been undertaken to enhance the sustainability of the development, from reducing energy use to enhancing ecology and improving water efficiency.

The Homes

The new homes at Stanmore Place are designed and built to be highly energy efficient. Features such as enhanced wall insulation and reduced air leakage lowers annual heating costs for residents, lowers energy consumption and reduces the overall contribution of the new homes to climate change.

Solar thermal panels will be fitted to the roof of some apartment blocks, supplying hot water to a selection of the homes. Solar thermal panels are a type of renewable technology, harnessing heat from the sun for use in the home. They have been integrated into Stanmore Place to reduce the overall carbon dioxide emissions of the new community.

Roughly a quarter of all light fittings in the homes are designed to be used only with low energy light bulbs and all appliances supplied will have an energy rating of 'A' or above. These features help to reduce the amount of electricity consumed in the day to day running of each new home.

Dual flush toilets have been specified in each bathroom and all showers and taps are fitted with flow restrictors to reduce the volumes of water they use.

The Land

Stanmore Place has been built on 'brownfield' land. This is land that has previously been used for another purpose - the land on which Stanmore Place is built once contained government owned offices housing the DVLA.

The use of brownfield allows St Edward Homes to make best use of the land resource available in London and avoids using up environmentally valuable 'greenfield' land on the outskirts of towns and cities.

The Environment

Flora and fauna have been given space amongst the new homes. A number of large trees growing on the old site have been retained, whilst the landscaping around Stanmore Place introduces a range of new plant species.

A number of the roofs on the apartment blocks are covered in soil and spoil. This is termed a "brown roof"  and is designed to provide a habitat for various species, this maximising biodiversity.

Transport

Carbon Dioxide emissions from car journeys forms a major part of many personal carbon footprints.

Stanmore Place is located close to a number of tube, train and bus stops with links into Central London and the South East. Canons Park tube station is within easy walking distance for underground connections into London.

Cycle storage is provided for residents within the car park and the development has facilitated the creation of new pedestrian and cycle routes linking the development to the surrounding area. This all helps to reduce the need for residents to travel by car thereby helping them to cut their carbon footprint.
